Watch your top knot. Will this be the biggest storm that you’ve been in?

A Cat2 is nothing to take a chance with. The Gulf is even warmer along the coast where the water shallows.

I'd get off that water!

Be safe. Lots can go wrong in the thick of it. I assume you do drills onboard. Knowing your station bill duties can make the difference. I’ve seen it blow over a hundred only 3 times while on a boat and the last time we all came home in a helicopter

2' chop on a barge sounds like a bad time. Hope all goes well.

Watching old episodes of Deadliest Catch is about as close as I'd want to get to any of that crap.

Welp, end up getting told to tie up at here in Bolivar , gonna be helping the local fleet with some other boat making. Sure nothing breaks apart and runs off. Supposed to be topping out at 70 somthing mph gusts 3-9 foot possible tidal surge .....but hay you know what that say

Hey wolfie. When they measure hurricane wind speed it's measured in sustained wind speed, not gusts, and it looks like where you are you can expect wind speeds between 75-85, sustained. Looking like it'll make landfall shortly after dark with the worst of it not until shortly before dawn.

I would expect wind and tidal surge would be the big issue pushing barges. Lots of sail area to push around likewise for storm surge pushing.

Don't know how those boats are ballasted but the ones I regularly dodged on the warrior were pretty much self righting with weight down low.

Taking on water though is never good for anything that's supposed to float.

Be careful and if something breaks loose steer clear. I've seen barges freewheeling down river on the flood that had broken loose from the port. Not much stops them until they pile up against something solid.

I was on the Coast Guard Cutter Unimak in 1967 and we went through 100 mph winds for half a night. Got thrown out of my rack. Boat was 327 feet long. Waves were so large that we would run down the back side of a tall wave and plow headfirst into the next wave. The second wave would completely engulf our ship, bow to stern. We went over one wave and under the next for hours. The ship shook but held together. Was a WWII seaplane tender the Navy transferred to the CG. Coast Guard used it as a high-endurance weather cutter and later as a training ship.

Red line down is what usually underwater if that helps any. As far as the barges we have another boat as a fleet assist boat Incase stuff gets a bit "western". We're on loads though she its only 6' out the water total where as the empties are 12-16 I think
