Where do you guys get yours; or do you make them yourselves!? I have an old book that has all the dimensions. That might be a fun late summer project. Of course with the cost of decent wood, it may be cheaper just to buy them already made.

By the time you buy the wood, and any tools to make them, your probably already behind then just buying them...

Always made my own-not rocket science and plenty of wood kicking around.
Dont use measurements from old books.
The trade today wants longer and narrower stretch.
Look up the FHA fur handling manual on line all the dimensions are in there.
I tweaked the dimensions a bit to better fit my section of fur,for example we have considerably larger animals like fox wolf etc than other sections. Our rats are smaller.Marten mink cats and otter in our section fit the published sizes perfectly
I like to use cedar but use pine also.Just discard any pine boards with pitch pockets and dont make boards with knots at the edges.

FHA dimensions fit my furs better than NAFAs
And you and I are in or close to the same District.
My rat boards are a little different, made from old
thicker paneling.
Try the skinny fox board you will not go back to wire.
If a local buyer whines, smile walk away and ship to auction.

I’ve always made my own. The first ones I made were back in the early 70s in the high school woodshop from some clear white pine that I bought at a local lumber shop. I made them to the dimensions listed in one of the first editions of the Pennsylvania Trapping and Predator Control book. Some of the clueless kids wanted to know if I was making miniature surfboards.

The next batch I made was about 20 years ago, also made of white pine and made to NAFA dimensions.

A few years ago I had a bunch of American Linder/basswood boards milled from some trees on my property. The new boards will most likely be milled to FHA dimensions.

Eh...wot?

Wright and Lugnut; I truly don’t know if I’ll be selling any furs at this point in my trapping career. I’m so in love with tanned fur that I’d like to keep whatever few critters I snag. Especially if I try tanning myself this season!

The NAFA dimensions were always too wide in the shoulder area on my red fox and coon. I end up using the small size boards even on larger adult reds.

My youngest daughter made me tan and keep a lot of the furs we caught when we she got me back into trapping about twenty years ago. We still have many of them. Some were sold a few years ago at a decent profit.

I find it difficult to get skins to look right on them. They always appear crooked and not at all neat. I’ve only ever boarded one animal and it was a mink and it looked so nice. Straight like a soldier

I plane mine to 1/2" and they're traced from bought boards.
