Low tire pressure and agressive tread make atv and sxs dangerous at higher speed on paved roads. They are meant for dirt. They are legal here on roads in town and in the country but not on hiway.Skidoo legal here on roads also. Some municipalities have by law prohibiting atv and skidoo on certain streets like downtown, but no restrictions in smaller towns. Lots of people here drive around town in golf carts in summer also.

Very sad situation. Youngsters need to be taught the importance of defensive driving. Nailed it. Had a lesson with my boys 11 and 14 this week about breaking when loaded heavy on a truck Handel's and breaking is different and the same with loaded trailers.

Obviously those same people on a motorcycle would have ended up dead. Atvs handle different they can be 80 and not have experience, worse being older makes many over confident especially men I would put money on a good % of your debts to gave booze and drugs as a contribut factor. But sure blame the machine. Do you also blame guns for every shooting. And cars for vehicle fatalities? If so great your at least consist
I'm not blaming the machine. I just feel these are off road vehicles and shouldn't be on the roads. We have lots of areas in WI for them to operate off road and on trails made for them. In my township, we have no trails at all and they can only operate on the road.

When I was growing up this guy killed his girlfriend by shooting her in the face with a 12ga. When I went there at noon her blood was still on the concrete. That's a little gruesome That's life at times.

take 141 north out of Green bay on the 4th of July morning and ever 3rd vehicle is towing a trailer of ATV/UTV it seems or are accompanying the trailer of ATV/UTV pulling a camper.

In my township, we have no trails at all and they can only operate on the road. Copy that. In my area it's urban sprawl. Farms being developed and lots sold off. So many new moved to the country small land owners that think they now own 50k acres not 5. So atv and utv traffic increase. Mostly people out joy riding on their new toys that don't have enough ground to keep them busy on or a genuine use for just toys. Often I think a lot of beer gets drank at the same time. Most drive slow and responsible. But there are always a few like with anything else. I'm just one that slow to go to restrictions or regulations because it's limiting rights and transferring more power from us to the government. And it's seldom governments give any power up or back. Stupid people kill themselves and others every day I will go the other direction and say laws and regulations have made deaths increase. How is that. Cars used to have instructions on how to set the points, put water in the battery, Change the plugs, and check the oil. Today with all the laws and warning labels it has warnings telling you not to drink the battery acid. Really come on what happened to make people so stupid and having basic common since seem like you have a super power? Making the world safe for idiots and providing for non producers that natural selection used to take care of has made us over run with them. And they then reproduce making the problem worse!!!

In my township, we have no trails at all and they can only operate on the road. When farmers have fields on both side of the road, operating "on" the road makes life a whole lot easier. I trap fields on both sides of the road, good chance I'll be riding an ATV this year for the first time. I'd hate to have to trailer it to cross the road just to check other fields. People need to learn how to operate equipment and follow the rules of the road.

the other thing is ,
IS YOUR ATV farm husbandry or are you operating it for recreation.
farm husbandry could always be operated on the road different paces regulated it different
back when I worked the farm early 90s the ATV had a slow moving vehicle triangle on it and was husbandry , not that any one ever stopped us crossing the road or using the county bridge to get over the creek to the field on the other side.

Most parents wouldn't let their kids handle weapons without what they feel is adequate training and experience.
ATV/UTV operation by kids most times don't get the same attention. They can drive it OK around the yard....so they let em get on public roads.....SMH!

sad as this is , it sounds like it was a failure to yield/stop and the UTV drivers fault and sad but would have ended exactly the same way if they took the farm truck for a ride and didn't stop for a stop sign.
people see recreational vehicle and think toy , they are in-fact powerful tools nearly identical in weight and power to many cars of previous years.

Generally speaking, for some reason, people people don't think the rules of the road apply when they are in either a boat or an ATV.

Last week my wife was hot whan we were up at the barn and she hears what she thinks is a fire cracker down at the house because she told the kids they can only light them with me. We drive back down to the house and she jumps on my 11 year old and he tells her my 15 year old was shooting his .22. She didn't believe them tell the walked up with the target. Then she apologized. I laughed to myself she asked me what. I pointed out how she was all worked up over some weak fire crackers but just fine when they had rifles and in most families it would be the opposite. She knows they handle their guns well and have for years. Fire crackers are limited and not often thing and make her nervous.

I have been taking my grandson on the semi time to time. Ask him what did that sign sat say etc. Wait for him to say grampa kids are playing in that yard or those calves are in the ditch. Few years he will get a driver license. I want him to be ready.
