Hard to say.
I had several chickens (7) slaughtered like that a few years ago
The difference was that it was daytime.

It was a pack of dogs from over a mile away. Pit bull and Rottweiler crosses.
They were still milling around at the bottom of the hill when I drove up and saw the carnage.
I always have a rifle in the truck, so I was able to kill 2 of the 4 before they crossed the road heading back to their home. The guy that owns them is a straight up a-hole, so I didn't feel bad about doing it.

It was dogs if they could get in there. I’ve had several dog issues over the years, not the same group of dogs……

We reinforced the pen about four years ago by adding hardware cloth a foot up and a foot out from the base and added bird netting over the top. We stopped free-ranging in the spring and only let them out other times of the year when someone is home and the dogs can be outside.

We haven't lost a bird to predators since.

this is how losses of birds should be handled, you need to make your chickens as safe as possible, its on you to do this.
