A couple years ago a woman I worked with called and said red fox were killing her chickens. I didn't believe her, since red fox are scarce around here. But when we got there, her video footage showed it was indeed a red fox. We caught two red fox, and one gray, and the killing stopped... for a couple months, until she called again and we removed another 2 red fox.

That was about 2 years ago, and she called again yesterday. She showed me very grainy pics of the culprit, which did appear to maybe be a red fox. It killed 2 of 5 chickens, hauling both of them over a 4" woven wire fence about an hour before dark.

We went out today. She lives in a neighborhood, but her neighbors know we'll be setting and are ok with it. But it's not a very big area. Maybe 10 acres or so. Set only 3 traps.

This is my first set, completed. Epler's mouse bait, and Coonduke's RFG.

Then, in an area where a 2-track dead-ended about 30 yards from another 2-track, with a ravine in between, Pete found a critter trail connecting the 2 2-tracks and made a flat set lured with Night Owl Coldroller.

When he was making that set, I was roaming around and I found a den. It seems to be fresh den, that's being used, but all that was on the ground in front of it where a few feathers... no bones like you'd expect if it were an active fox den at this time of the year. Somehow, I forgot to take a pic of it. Tomorrow I will and will also set a trail cam up on it.

This is on the other 2-track at the other side of the small piece of land. My second set.

Now we wait and see. Not crazy about summertime trapping, but kind of excited to have sets to check in the morning.

It is better to die on your feet than to live on your knees.

If red fox are scarce in your area, would it be better for her to change her situation, maybe a dog in the yard. Doubt you want to spend the money to relocate them, if that's even legal. In my experience I have noticed things live in a specific area and nowhere else. Like rockfish on a reef. It's easy to fish out a small reef.

Maybe so. It's just the way I've always done it. Old habits are hard to break.

Nice-looking sets, Angela. Those are great photos for trappers (of any age) to reference when it comes to subtle guiding and blending.

She just wants em gone and she pays well. She has dogs, they were lounging in the A/C when the killings took place and never even noticed, lol.

You should have no problem with a catch. Nice looking sets.

Caught two coon is all. Got a lot of rain and not seen any fox tracks in the mud. Had to set them off the other day as Pete got sick and I had work. Plan to reset this Wednesday.

no fox in my area of wa....
But for coyote...
I would remove the big stick or rock on the bottom left..I Like more of a v entrance for a hole set

I believe it is more inviting to the target animal, they do not have to work hard at a set,,,, AKA,,,they do not get bored as quick
I center the hole in the set,,,
