This year so far been bumper crop of bugs. We haven't talked about it here for awhile. Just wondering if anyone else is still refilling their own Thermacells cartridges? I was in the shop today filling some cartridges when my son messaged? What you doing? Told him filling few cartridges for the thermacells. He said I will be over in a few minutes, I got some empties. Him and his buddies sit in garage drinking beer. So he always gets a few new cartridges from them. They know to throw their empties on shelf.
Ended I think I filled 22 empties total 10 mine 12 his with several his being first time. So my son pulled the main valves took out the one way valves. While I filled the one already to go. I know Im not saving great big money. But it's one of the things I like to piddle with. Wifes been using her unit while she is out in garden.

I have a couple but rarely think to use them. When I have used them, they work great. Honestly, I didn't know there was a way to refill the cartridges. Is it a kit you buy or something?

I have nothing clever to put here.

I generally buy umpteen cartridges at once and never thought about refilling them. I will say they seem to last for forever. I may use 2-3 cartridges a year. I even clip one to my back pocket while thermal hunting.

I'm a believer! They work for me, and I never leave the house without one. Always in the truck and an arm reach away.

They work awesome! One of the only repellants I have found that will keep white socks at bay. The only biting insect that I have found that the Thermacell doesn’t work on is horse flies.

I was a skeptic when they first came out

Found one on clearance after deer season and now I have at least 3 and have given several as gifts

Have some empties lying around but have never refilled one

The units work well. When I went bear hunting in Canada it actually looked like each of us was in a clear bubble the bugs were so bad outside the 'zone".

Yeah Green that's pretty much same video I seen when I first did refills. I'm not sure just when I actually started been 3-4 years ago at least. I got my first Thermacell as a door prize at rod and gun banquet. Actually left it sit for months maybe year? before first tried using it. Someone said you seen one these actually works well. Sure got one laying in drawer still in box.
Think I have 4 of the hand units and one looks like little lantern. Set that one on table when at camper or out on patio. Been setting hand units on ground under picnic table. Even use them in early season duck blind and in bear stand.
I've actually been reusing the pads too. Just put a couple drops of permithrin on them. My son doesn't like messing around like that so still buys pads. He saves his used ones for me so I don't totally burn mine up. LoL

That backpacker model looks like it would be perfect on the boat make a big cup holder to hold the tank and mount it in the middle of the boat or up wind side

Yeah that back packer does look like it would work well. Especially where I use the little lantern model I have. Be nicer though if could run the 1lb LP instead of another type butane tank. I have been refilling the 1lb LP for awhile now too. Use them for Mr Hester and camp stove and a lantern. Probably to hot and I don't use it much. Maybe try put a thermacell pad somewhere on lantern?

I was looking at the 1lB refill an bought a 5Lb tank instead that refills like the 20# tanks at the farm store

I've got a 10lb LP tank I have had for probably 30 years or more now. Use it in the boat spring fishing with the tank top Mr heaters, they had before the Buddy series came out. I have a Buddy style heater and I still like the 1lbs for that. The 10lb tank is handy on the weed burner like was talked about in another post. My wife can carry the 10lb tank with weed burner. My son was borrowing the 10lb tank and weed burner for starting drill fires. They bought their own burner and hump a 20lb now.
