I can hear the Belisle thump from here…lol. Did you pull them up for pics or were they set just out of the water? I should’ve kept my wolf skin that was slipping, was still good from the chest to the head. Just kept the feet & the tail, still in the freezer.

Yea I pull them beaver up for pics. Lots of good fur on half a wolf skin, and they tan up pretty good,a lot easier to get nice stretchy leather than beaver. I put my 8 gallon containers of rehydrating soak, pickle, neutralizer, rinse and tan on dollys in the shed so I can hoist the big wet skins to drain on a winch then transfer to each container as needed.Saves the back.Got a big wolfskin in the pickle right now.I decided to tan that one since it had some missing guardhair in the grotzen from lice, but lots of good prime fur on the rest.

Got a new client couple days ago for nuisance beaver work-Canada Nickle Company is opening up a new nickle mine back in the boonies and some of their roads are having beaver issues. Picked up 2 beaver yesterday on the first check, will try to remember to bring the camera tomorrow, Hot nasty work in the bug infested muskeg of mid summer on the frontier.. Back up in the headwaters of the North Driftwood river country.

Congrats, sweet deal! Got a great head start myself for the coming cat season. Lure supply all brewed and mellowing and trap work finished. A few scouting trips under the belt. Headed out Monday for a 5 day back country trip to scout some new cat areas. Keep up the good work.

Great photos and nice-looking cats, Mick. In my part of the state, I wouldn't be able to keep a cat if I did catch one due to our regulations.

On some of your nuisance beaver jobs, if they just started plugging the flow in spring/summer, how many are you taking out? I’ve taken 2 adults and one breeder at one spot. 2 adults, one HUGE breeder and a couple kits after mom was gone. I was thinking there’d be 2 beaver if the dams/plugs are only starting this year. A young couple trying to make a go of it. Nice looking wolf! My mink & wolf tail turned out great! Better than my Trubond kit. I’m never tossing a half rotten wolf again.

Here in the northern boreal wetlands, most of the time after a spot has been cleaned out and some activity is noticed after a couple of years it is a pair of beaver from the current year paired up. Occasionally a whole colony can move in to a new spot that has been dead for a while but this is not common. In some cases a pair of beaver or even a whole established colony can be taken out of a spot on a drainage, and as soon as the adjacent colony notices territorial castor mounds not being maintained they move in pretty quick to maintain water levels upstream or claim a feed source.I often see this on a creek or lake on traplines that are vacant and not trapped in fall and winter, where beaver populations are too high. On traplines that are trapped fall winter and spring, nuisance issues are rare and when they show up it is invariably a pair. Not the case on unmanaged zones.

The piece of black wolf turned out great. Perfect size for a nice pair of winter gauntlets.I will use the black fur for the mitts, moosehide palm and thumb, and I will use the long grey flank and rump fur for the snowcuffs around the top. Got two otters oiled up last night,3 mink out of the pickle and in the tan,and 2 more mink and a rat soaking in water, ready to scrape,de grease and into the pickle. Things are rolling now,fur going in and coming out daily.

That piece looks beautiful. Kudos on tanning your own and using what a lot of people would have thrown out. Posts like this are some of my favorites. Utilizing what you have instead of complaining about what you don't. Thank you

I'm always puttering around glad to share. Right now its nuisance beaver and tanning and travelling and selling. After fur trapping I get into the fur sewing, usually March and April.
