Never seen so many in all my years must be because of the amount of rain we have been getting it’s never ending 2X-3X a week we get rain another 1.5 yesterday morning. Very few crickets less spiders this year but the earwigs are booming I’m finding them everywhere now. Everything I move in the shop one comes crawling out every board or brick has them living under it.
In the past it was barn spiders when the lake bugs (midges) hatched under the right conditions. Chickens wiped out the cricket population now these greasy little critters show up.

yup earwigs love the moist
some people have success with ear wig traps , a pan burried to the edge with water and some vegetable oil in it cover that with cardboard and they go to hide under and go in the pan and can't get out.
other ways might not be too good to have around the chickens
America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

I had to look them up to see what the heck they were. I might have seen them in my life time but I doubt it. Never lived in an area where we had to much moisture for long periods.

My dad recalled the first earwig they ever seen in St Helens, Oregon right around WW1 They had it in a jar and paraded it all around to show folks. But they're everywhere now. It's not a native species.
My fear of moving stairs is escalating!

For a trap use equal parts soy sauce and olive oil. Put in a shallow tray or bowl at soil level and place where you see them. That sounds like a way Asian people would eat earwigs. Keith

It does seem to be a great year to be an earwig. I have noticed a lot more male than female earwigs though. the females guard the egg chambers that is why you don't see them just modify a Minnesota mosquito trap to catch them, but there may be" export out of state rules" those Minn. guys have imposed
