I have a house that keeps finding bats in the basement level
I know they are not getting in from there.
High steep metal roof with plenty of sun.

Do you think they are looking for a cooler place to hang out.
It is my theory.
Interior of the lake front home is poorly finished with T&G pine.
Junk cabin on the water in WA ,,,. 1 million

Most of my "bat in basement" calls, have a center chimney or older home with balloon construction (no fire stops in walls). Very rare to have bats getting directly into basement, but I've seen it 4 or 5 times in 26 years. Always a single male. Since it's a recurring issue, they are in the attic. Those metal roofs can be tricky, and slick.

Bats follow air flow or any cool air drafting upwards. Once that air flow is detected they will follow it down to the source.

I have seen it happen many times over the years. Usually it occurs in older houses. Old houses with pocket doors, laundry shoots and old framed wall houses. Some come down chimneys and get into the damper areas of an older furnace and dampers that directly tie into an old chimney base and eventually leads to the interior basement area.

Outside walls in some homes that do not have any stops between floors can easily have bats flow down/crawl through those areas once drafting has been detected.

this home has a finished basement with no door.
The bats were entering the interior from the top story
I did a interior seal to allow the homeowner to use the vacation property until the execution can take place.
Interior sealing is a pain in the but, I have seen bats come out of outlet boxes that did not have wall plates, can lights, compromised exhaust venting, around plumbing ,,, ect, ect. I never give a guarantee.
And as stated Balloon construction makes things harder.
Two of their guest found bats in the bed next to them.
The entire family (from Canada) went home and then came back to the States to start shots after the homeowner contacted Us.
If only they would have kept the bats......

Cabins are tough, especially older ones. They were often built with all sorts of questionable practices. I remember arriving at one that had flattened white pine bark as shingle siding. A neat idea, but no way I’m quoting that job, lol.

This time of year they will definitely move to beat the heat down here. Big browns are notorious for it.

From the gable/peak down into the soffit, under the insulation onto the cooler sheetrock. Even out onto the roof under the soffit overhang.

Big BoB is on fire...!!!

day three,,,, no bats
I covered 20% +- of the unsupported/ poor interior finishing using blue painters tape......
Bats hate sticky ,,,....

Caulked/trimmed everything inside,,,, Amazing what it will do to the interior of a home, include the things that dont need to be for bats....WIN win

Add interior to your business plan if you are good with a caulk gun and a saw.

It is all about detail work Dave when you do projects like that.

I have chosen not to offer that kind of service as it is so tedious and time consuming and not always a guarantee that you have been successful at blocking all the entry breakthru points.

Plus the client doesn't always like the price tage associated with such work. Potential call backs on that kind of service in most cases.

Interior is standard fare for bat work considering blackout season.

Bob, I learned the profession from you, and others.
I do interior sealing because vacationers do not want to loose the opportunity to stay at the "vacation home" for the summer.
I also recommend a bug net around each bed.
