When Trump gets back in the WH there's alot of people going to lose thir jobs. Start in the SS then justice dept, fbi atf also the postal service. Don't count on it. He doesn't (nor should he) have the power to do that on his own, though I agree it needs to be done.

Per the Constitution the sitting president does have the sole authority over employees of the executive branch. Historically, the federal beauracracy operated under the spoils system where presidents cleared out the last guy's hires and rewarded his own donors with jobs. Eventually, enough middle level know what they're doing folks got retained that they managed to get the spoils system ended resulting in our current protected status for federal employees. JMO, we need to return to a system where every unelected federal employe works at an "at will" basis.

Interesting. About how many employees would that be? Fire them all and make them reapply every four years just like we do their boss.

One thing that would alleviate alot of that would be closure of many if not most of the alphabet agencies and turning over to the states as much of the work that does need to be done. True. Or at least cut the size of those agencies at least in half. More would probably be better.

The whole concept y'all are discussing is part of what The Heritage Foundation's Project 2025 calls for. The liberals are losing their minds over Project 2025.
I honestly don't know how I feel about that. On one hand, it seems like it would be a nightmare trying to retrain hundreds of thousands of federal employees every 4-8 years. But, obviously these agencies being ran by career bureaucrats also isn't working out very well... you need look no further than the FBIs persecution of Trump, or this latest snafu with the SS. That is the only way the entrenched deep state bureaucrats can be gotten rid of. Warrior is dead on about making them "at will employees." That was Trump's Achiles heel in his last administration, you had unelected deep state bureaucrats torpedoing his programs any way they could. If you really want to drain the swamp that's how it will have to be done.
