Yours is left side . That looks genetic. Be interesting to see if those bucks were twins at birth. Or at the least brothers 1 year apart. Both of those deer look healthy. I think sometimes genetics can be part of it. Inbreeding especially. Free range deer you think it wouldn't happen but I've seen spikes that run with does all summer breeding on the same property.

According to body size, those bucks are 2 different ages. No way twins. I’d say the first is 4.5-5.5 that second buck is a 3.5 year old. If the back end is larger than the front it’s 3.5 or younger. If they’re even it’s a 4.5yr old If that front end is larger than the rear end (bulldog look) then it’s 5.5+.
This is what works in my area. I tell folks that want to know what a mature deer looks like, if he comes in swaggering he’s mature. If it reminds you of a bulldog he’s mature. If he looks like a thoroughbred racehorse he needs another year. And if he throws caution to the wind like a teenager he needs several more years, lol.
The size of the pedicle in that first bucks pic is absolutely crazy. The fact he survived is even more crazy. That’s a chunk of bone to fill in and not get infected. You are right why I threw out 1 year apart. BUT I'm not sure it isn't genetics. First deer doesn't look like injury. second one is anyones guess !
