If you have fox it could be them also, but canines like to deposit on top of stuff, I see where dogs, coyotes and wolves all crap on top of grass clumps, rocks, stumps and yes cow pies in cow country, quite regularly. It is usually a territorial marking when deposited high like that, rather than and random bowel movement and will be revisited by both the the depositer and others.
