Scrolling thru the recent fishing posts, made me realize I haven’t posted about fishing in a long time. I’m caught up around the farm until harvest season , other than keeping up with the grass and going thru some equipment maintenance. So - spending quite a bit of time on the water fishing and crabbing. I was in the ocean two weeks ago in 70 ft of water over a wreck I like to fish when I hooked a really big flounder. He ate a 4 oz jig tipped with a strip bait. Ended up weighing 8.83 lbs on the local tackle shops scale - my biggest so far.

Also been working on the mahi , august is best for those when the warm water from the Gulf Stream moves in close.

Had a good trout run in May but it was short lived. Water got warm , the fish spawned and moved on - quickly. But , a lot of fun casting light tackle around the marshes.

Nice pictures.

Do you guys bleed the fish and use Coolers over there?

Best Coast fishing,,,,,, most bleed, rinse and chill..(friend of mine created a new cocktail after they ran out of "Non Fish" ice..... sick )

When did dolphin change over to mahi?

Mahi Mahi is hawaiian. On the Gulf those were always bull or chicken dolphin. Occasionally heard Dorado from the Spanish speakers.

Just curious when the hawiian name took over.

Shortly after the tv series Flipper. Restaurants took dolphin off the menu and started selling Mahi Mahi.

It's all Mahi in the stores, haven't heard dolphin in years, I think down in the Caribbean it's Dorado.

Lol...i was in a fancier type restaurant with a friend
Seen the mahi mahi on the menu. When our young server came by I ordered the dolphin. She immediately got offended and did not believe me. I told her to check with the chef. She came back after getting an education. It was funny to get her cranked up.....lol

Dave p Shantytown has been long gone and replaced with private homes. Ive caught a mess of flounder there back in the day, mostly at night under the big lights . You can still get a good drift in the channel at certian times when the boat traffic is slow and the right tide. I miss the old pier , but times have changed.
