All the efforts to reduce concussion injuries are needed because the helmet improvements over the last few decades has created a situation where players are taught to use the head as a weapon. I'm not advocating for a return to leather head caps, but players were not using their heads as a weapon in those days.

I hadn't heard about the kick return ... I know they changed to rules for on-side kicks ... only in the 4th quarter, only by the trailing team, must be declared before the play and some other nonsense.

I believe in making the game as safe as possible for the players. But they are getting paid millions of dollars to accept the risks of the game. If the game continues down this path, woman's high school powder puff football will have more contact play.
