Hey North, here is a great canine bait you can make yourself. If you or someone you know shoot a deer use a mixture of 50% coagulated blood from in the deer's body cavity and 50% contents of the deer's stomach. Can use it fresh or tainted works great either way. Just do not use stomach contents that have corn in them as that attracts mice and squirrels. I find this bait deadly especially after deer season when all the coyotes and fox have been feeding on gut piles.

That sounds like a great bait. The only problem around here would be finding a deer without corn in it's stomach.

Some of us don’t field dress. I don’t make a cut on the deer until it’s hanging in the barn or from my tailgate mounted hoist.

Put a bucket under it and catch the blood. I also don’t “field dress” I do the gutless method.

Unless it’s super hot and I’m far away from the truck then I skin it on the ground and pack out the quarters.

Still with the gutless method.

Stop over cooking your meat! It isn’t gamey, it’s over cooked!

Snares and bodygrips in trails don't require lure or bait.

Life ain't supposed to be easy.

Where I hunt, it's usually less than fifteen minutes from when I get/find the deer, to when it's hanging from the tree. I gut it then.

We have 3 processors within 10-15 minutes and they get all our deer and we know them all. I can go up anytime and pick parts on the way to set traps if I wanted. Generally it just doesn’t get cold enough to use anything like that without rotting, then you get rolling on the traps. Eggs rot over time, but it’s a long time.

Just remember whatever lure or bait you use there is no substitution for hard word (fun for trappers), plenty of scouting and ultimately making a great set in a really good location.

With the amount of deer we kill, we’d basically become processors, lol.

Don’t forget the amount of money it costs to pay another person to cut your deer! And the fact that you don’t know if it’s your deer you are getting back. Cheaper to do it yourself even after you buy the equipment.

When you “donate” so many deer to processors you get to have your deer done free. It’s a win/win for us. Gives us a place/places to take all the deer and get our meat for free. Some of the smaller deer we’ll take the back straps and a ham and donate the rest. He’ll use that for hamburger meat. Most processors have a list of people that don’t hunt, but want venison and buy a processed deer or sausage or even just deer burgers vs going to the grocery stores for meat.

Can’t beat that, pay the processing fee and get a deer. Do they do it by average weight of a deer or keep each one separate so they can keep track?
