I worked at a cabinet shop for three years. We kept our saw dust dry to avoid that. We had static protection to prevent dry aerosolized dust from exploding too.

Not the first time chip piles have combusted.

I did a fire pager system for a pulp mill 20 some years ago , they basically had full time fire crews some times multiple fires a day , they had alpha pagers. when the yard workers spotted a fire they called in it in to the dispatcher who used the equipment I was supporting to page the zone and pile # out to all the fire crews.

I wondered why not just use radios but , they wanted this paging product to work.
maybe the fire crews left the yards and the radios didn't reach that far.

piles were very tall 50-60 feet

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

Hmm, this is an interesting topic.

swampgas chili and schmidt beer makes for a deadly combo

You have to remember that 1 out of 3 Democratic Voters is just as dumb as the other two.

We had lots of fun in Chemistry class making huge lycopodium powder explosions.

Forget that fear of gravity-get a little savagery in your life.

We had a fun high school chemistry teacher, who had us make lots of explosions. We made a lot of hydrogen and got to play with phosphorus and magnesium a lot.

Both my dad and my wife's dad blew up parts of their basements as kids. My dad went on to get a doctorate in chemistry. Diane's dad ended up with glass in an eye and partial loss of vision from where his eye collapsed back on the rods and cones. He quit doing chemistry. He had a piece of glass work its way out of his eye in his late seventies.

If you ever puncture your eye, keep your head tilted down and forward and there's a good chance they can save your vision. If you tilt your head back, your eye will collapse back causing damage.

Flour bombs are fun.

I get the load of wood chips delivered and mix 1000-1500lbs of fresh chicken manure into the pile. I turn it with the tractor and FEL. In 6 months, the pile is reduced by more than 1/2. That is when I use it in my garden.

I've had around 30 truck loads of wood chips dumped here so far. I hope to get more loads still.

I sold plants at Quailcon, when not teaching, two weekends ago and at Harvest Days, last weekend and did really well.

Some of the other speakers I know are encouraging me to start doing the homesteading circuit. I'm considering it. It would probably be to much travel, with Diane being stuck here to take care of things. The speaking fees are decent, if not outstanding.

I'm starting another business, with a friend of mine, that will concentrate on food forest type plants and natives. It will be my first time having a business partner in 21 years. Hopefully it goes well.

Keith
