In truth, he was told he would move from Master Sergeant to this rank upon his deployment to the middle east when his unit was activated. He refused to go. One of the soldiers from that unit referred to him as a coward. So, he remained a Master Sergeant which was his highest rank. But, saw him this morning on local TV stating he was a Sergeant Major in the National Guard when he retired.
