Ha ha ha. Got ton admit the hype about it is disgusting and the fan boys embarrassing not only to themself but the gun culture, uninformed soy boys just saying what ther read with little to no experience to back it up is my impression of most i have met. Yet if it's a bad round than the 260 rem, and 6.5 sweed would have to be as well being ballistic are near identical. And the slower geendal even worse. A 243 would be totally inadequate and 7mm08 may only be a 100 yard gun with selective shot placement as well.
The creed more is a great round I don't one one but probably would have had I not had a custom 260 made about 5 years before the Creedmoor came out and my 260 is a great round as well is our 243s, and 7mm08. But it sure is fun and easy to make fun of the Creedmoor guys.
There's a very compelling reasons to shoot the Grendel.
If you don't know what they are you don't understand modern sporting rifles
The only reason is if you want to shoot an AR 15 platform.. if youbdo 6.5 Grendel or 6.8 spc are the absolute best rounds available for it.
Now your limiting yourself in performance just to soot a platform. Because there are much more advantageous calibers out there . Yet if your needs fall within the limites of those calibers limits and you like the platform. Myself it's just not my preference of platform in a rifle. Others like it, others like the 6.5 creed as well.
But to say a 6.5 Grendel, 6.8 spc, or 300 blackout rounds would be standardized mass produced rounds if people were not trying to get more performance out of an AR is lying to themselves. There are already so many other old cartridges that far exceed these rounds abilities.
And if your shooting a break action the best and the only rifle anyone ever need there is no reason to Handy cap yourself.
Actually I have a few reasons pas the the AR platform
Close range so no need to shoot a 300 rum making a tone of noise recoil and wast the powder when a 30 30 or 308 will do. I can see. Also you like to tinker. Most hunters are not gun guys and don't shoot a box of ammo a year.
Yet am I wrong saying these would not have been made into standardized rounds if it were not to get the most performance out of the ar 15 platform. Nope they would just be wildcats still like the 300 whisper few knew about before it it was tweeked and became 300 blackout.
If I'm limited to or want to shoot the ar platform I like the Grendel the most out of all the rounds available if it's over a 12" barrel. It was a toss up for about 15 min between it and 6.8 but I like and have 6.5 cal bullets in the shelf. And I like it's #s better to boot.
If I wanted less power and recoil I would go with a 6mmbr crazy accuracy mild recoil. Bolt gun faster and easier to clean scope closer to bore than Ar's and no slinging brass to go find. If I'm dreaming it would be a right hand bolt left hand ejection port action. But that just my fud level preference
MY FIRST RESPONCES WERE JUST MAKING FUN OF THE 6.5 CREED GUYS not taking a shot at the Grendel. Then I respond to the responses to that. If you want to shoot an AR I don't think you can do better especially considering handling of an AR 15 vs an AR 10. I think I would choose an AR 15 in Grendel over an AR 10 for my hunting needs on handling, weight and it will do all that's needed for the hunting I do and do it very well. . I don't think any ar 10 round would make me any more successful or add any benefit and the hand and weight would be worse.
Hey Wolfie, Not trying to hijack your thread, but was just curious what your thoughts are on barrel break in. Eric
O no problem at all !
So basically I look at it like this. High quality barrels.....egh , no real reason to do it since the QC on them is so good. I know a few companies point blank just say don't worry about it. Bartline being the main one. I mean there just made so well theirs not a tone of need...unless your bench rest type stuff. For those , a dect cleaning is really allt why need
Now...lower quality barrels , especially these $100 one I get for giggles , definitely break them in. Why ? Simply their cheaper and more masses produced so there more frequent to be rough and have junk in them from the machining process. And that stuff can definitely effect accuracy off the bat.
For me I really look breaking in as just smoothing everything out. And getting it even before actually looking at how it's preforming . Me personally, I'll bore scope first see what everything looks like . Then dub a dry patch just to see , then scrub the barrel with an abrasive cleaner, usually 3-5 patches on a jag with iosso or JB bore paste. Ill shove the fist though then short stroke the rest the whole way down basically scrubbing it. Then dry patch all that gunk out . When my patches are fairly clean I'll then run 1-3 with some kinda solvent, let it soak for a bit then dry patch it out again . Then run two or three down with the strongest rubbing alcohol to neutralize any solvent. Do that shoot my first 20 or so rounds for function, ect , bore scope again see if anything is off , dk the same cleaning procedure, the. Bore Scope again. Sound alike a lot but really it's 15min a cleaning session and usually buy the 50rd mark I'm more then happy and have pretty consistent results. This might explain a lil better

Have you ever tried the abrasive stuff sold for putting on bullets to smooth them out? Any preferences on rifling type. Only thing I hav noticed is my 5 r barrels get clean with a lot less patches ran through them.

I love seeing the ammo on sale and available.
You also forgetting about a whole class of people who like really short actions in bolt guns Youth fire arms It's just plain cheaper to load these smaller cases which is one of my main reasons And I'm sorry I can't stand the whole 6mm br/ ppc argument...like seriously even before the Grendel / arc what was the barrier to entry for those ? You looks at custom about everything super expensive ammo for boutique small manufacturers... .. like if we're talking. About the average guy I don't even see how that's a .. whatever I mean we could also go into the nutty gritty about modern case and chamber design and how a lot of these never calibers are more efficient and with the way the chambers are being cut their just more accurate apple to apples ...but that's been a waste of time to try and talk about 90% of the time I've brought it up sooo
But yeah a lot of these cartridge where I initially made for the AR platform which imo is one of the absolute most utilitarian firearms ever made ,but they also excel in bolt guns .
Honestly for the majority of gun owners who, as you said , don't shoot a box a year ,I don't even see why we even have these conversations most of the time....who friggen cares ? Most people are blasting Bambi inside of 100yd , do something other then aim for the big middle and you should be good . Actually talk to a lot of people across the pond in the UK and south Africa who are super confused why most of these conversations are a thing 70% of the time because for them anything under 100yd smaller then a eland just gets a .223 to the dome

O the tubb bullets .? No haven't tried yet but everything thing I've. Seen shows they work well. As far as rifling....egh just try to match what I'll be shooting really

I used to need out and live out live to shoot little groups. Figured I would have to have barrels set back just playing with loads. I loved playing with different things and spen some money on stuff. I do like high quality component in barrels, optics, ext. But I also have a fondness for value and cheap gear that shoots much better than expected and optics that get the job done, are sold hold zero and track.
As nice as high end gear is I think It's more fun to have the good shooting value gear. Foe example my go to .22 is a cheap savage 62 that I have had 26 years. Boy is it rough from hard use but it shoots small groups and is light and handy. Paid $89 for it new. But I grab it over my much nicer .22s every single time. It's just more satisfying for some reason.
