Ok I'll try that. Thanks!

Too heavy lam's will slow down the trap closing a LOT, maybe enough to allow a miss.

I'm not sure how to do this method using an offset trap.

I’ve never laminated an offset jaw before but you could use a piece of flat stock that is thicker than the offset. Let the trap clamp the flat stock in place. Use a vice grip to clamp the lamination tight to the flat stock. I’ve only ever used steel. Never wood…it might work too but can start on fire obviously.

I think I'll use a board wider than the gap as was also suggested.

Ok one final question if I may.... If I don't get it quite straight (flush with the jaws)..... does anyone see a problem just welding too much and filling in the gap, then grinding that down?

Result: So essentially I would have a "solid bar" I just made.

Nevermind, The Black Trapper just answered the question. The answer is yes...

I had a bunch of no.4 long springs once, that I had no use for.I gotta thinking about modifying them so I base plated them and laminated the jaws.Right after I did it I was told they'd now be too slow(I was using them for coyotes). Then I started rethinking about what Id done but season was coming up and they were all set to go.I was surprised and very happy with the results,no problems with their speed and was very easy on their paws, especially when you compare them to the factory jaws.Laminating might not be a,cure all especially with some non target catches but I sure like them. One guy took his no.2 bridgers and laminated the top and bottom of the jaws (I believe its called the Canadian modification)and was very happy with his even on non targets like coons. He was from Wisconsin and had a video out,I can't recall the title.

That is very helpful. Thank you.

No, all it shows is someone wanting to do better by the animals

Thank you. I agree and appreciated the support.

That said, I removed it. I don't need to add to the anti ammo.

I would note that 99.999% of my traps are just fine. It's this one single manufacturer (I'm sure you all know who) who makes a 4-coil that is problematic in that area.
