Christians can't erect a 100 foot cross in this c oyntry. There are two within 30 miles of my house so I guess they can. In Monroe, Ohio they put up this 62' tall Jesus. ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2024/08/full-11798-227544-1212687235_2142582f94_b.jpg) It was struck by lightning and burned up completely. ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2024/08/full-11798-227545-r_9.jpeg) They replaced it with this 52' statue of Jesus. ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2024/08/full-11798-227547-46282813462_c66e753f64.jpg) They were built in sight of around 40, lifesize, fiberglass giraffes on a nearby flea market roof plus cowboys and fake palm trees. I enjoy seeing the giant Jesus every time I pass. I wish they would make more, even larger giant saviors. Keith

There are a lot of large crosses spread throughout northern MS; as I work a lot in the Webster County area.
I don't think Jesus statues or giant crosses are a big deal to rural folks in the south.
Although, I don't think Jesus Christ would approve of it; I wish I was a billionaire and as an experiment buy a one acre block in downtown NYC or Houston and erect a 100" statue of Jesus holding His Bible preaching His ministry. With a sign that said I AM the Way, and the Truth, and the Life.
I'd like to see how that would fly.

Two things...
First, God's command about not worshiping idols was given to His people. I know idol worship is still bad outside of God's family (in fact it is arguably the root cause of evil in the world), but it is to be expected. The apostle Paul suggested that we should not hold outsiders to the same standards to which we hold insiders (see 1 Cor 5). For idol worship within God's family, we call it out and root it out. For outsiders, step one is to invite them inside. Think about Paul's sermon at Mars Hill. He didn't stand up and berate and shame all those filthy pagans. He simply told them about the one true God and invited them to acknowledge Him.
Second, since Daniel 3 was mentioned, we would do well to remember what that idol represents and what the rest of Daniel is about. It's not just about making statues. The point of idol statues is that they represent something else, a deity or something that is deified and made ultimate in the eyes (and lives) of humans. The statue in Daniel 3 embodies the nation of Babylon itself - its values, its rulers, its gods. The ruler of the nation has made a symbol of the nation (see chapter 2) and demanded that everyone in the nation give the nation ultimate authority and allegiance. The people aren't merely being asked to bow before a statue. They're being asked to treat the nation itself as if it is God. It is about the idolization of a nation, not just a statue. There's a lot more to say on this, and I could make it clearer if necessary. For now, I'll just suggest to Christians in this nation that you pay close attention to yourselves and consider what has your allegiance. Do you view and interpret God's word through the lens/filter of national ideologies or do you view and interpret the nation and its ideologies through the lens of God's word? Well said on all accounts according to my views. The other nations were given to other gods. They were expected to worship those gods and there was only correction when His people were the ones who started following those gods. This theme is repeated all through the Old Testament. The cure was judgement (often made by other nations warring against the Israelites) followed by humility, then a new covenant leading to restoration. Now we have to look at what is our kingdom/nation as Christian’s that belongs to God since we are his children. I would argue it is your household, and the choices you make on a daily basis. He renews all things, so we are also to renew all things by proxy.

I bet Jesus would be more concerned about Joel Osteen's mega church in Houston than he would be the monkey statue in Houston. joel osteen is a bad person as proved by his actions during the hurricane. Keith

The atheist make sure the Govt don't have any crosses put up anywhere on their premises. I think that would be the separation of church and state as defined by the constitution. Not the atheist. Eric

I don't think we should have steeples on churches. I don't think we should celebrate Christ's birthday near the winter solstice (as He was probably born in the fall), and I dang sure don't like the easter bunny.
Bunch of pagan crap!

Mine on my dad's side is Irish, but my moms side goes back to the Mayflower. Yes possibly forced, but also misled. From what I gather; you were probably raised like me, southern Baptist in the early 80s. If I am wrong, then I apologize, but it don't change the fact of what I'm fixin to say. In the 1850's Zionism started and spread to a lot of local branches of protestants. For whatever reason, I don't know, but they took it up as a beacon and have been preaching on it ever since. That's what I was raised in within a southern Baptist church with wooden pews, no AC and only an outhouse for a restroom. Anyway, that was in the early 80s for me. Our parents and grandparents had to deal with it as well. The stuff we are discussing right now would be a no go to my grandma; they would consider it blasphemy right a way and curse me like the devil. Different times.

It's why Christianity contains so much of the Norse religion. There's not a single original idea in Christianity. It was all cobbled together to control people. Keith
