It's not been a year but I figured ide update, we've been milking since September. One jersey had a bad bag, only one nipple working, we let her raise her calf to 7 weeks then weaned it and she went in the feedlot, as soon as the freezer runs low she will be gone.

The other jersey is a complete doll, my dad decided he wanted to milk her so I brought her over to his place, he likes that cow better than he's liked any dog he's owned. He babies the cow. He started milking two quarters once a day in the morning, calf ate the rest, he'd get around a gallon. Once he weaned the calf she started giving 3.5 or so gallons a day being milked twice. He uses some cheap battery powerd milker and it seems to work fine.

I have a constant supply of fresh milk, my dad has a new best friend, all in all its working out real well. My daughter loves to "help" milk.

That smile right there beats any financial return, hands down. Good job.

Between the two of us it only took a few minutes to get those 2-3 quarts of milk.

I used a stainless steel bucket and three legged milking stool.

And finally...don't do what my grandpa reportedly once did: He tied a brick to the old gal's tail to keep from getting his head swatted. Knocked him cold.

I'm going to tell you from first hand. Milking one goat is not bad getting up to 3 and it gets old. my forearms were I'd good shape though. The machine is faster with more animals.

Too bad about the one with a bad bag but it happens, once she gets dried up push the corn to her and she’ll be good eating.
