Claycreech I have had kennels full at times nearly 20. Some are just dogs some are family. Now I have spent more than I think reasonably on some of them. And likely will again. But I do have limits to what I will spend girls at work has spent 9 k on a 9 year old dog get cancer treatment. I wouldn’t do that. But I did spend 1500 geting cancer tumors cut out of my 8 year old German shepherd a year ago. And once 2500 on a setter pup that got mauled by the neighbors dog. My pup ended up 3 legged. BUT she lived a long happy life. Dumbest money I ever spent was on my daughter's favorite cat. It had been missing 3 days and she was outside when it showed back up. It had broken Jaw and leg and was a mess. Had she not been outside I would have shot it but she was about 6 or 7 and my little girl so it went to the vet. That was 500 on a darn cat but it was my little girls.
I have also traded a year old 4x4 4 wheeler for a single English setters male. He sure was fun to win trials with and made great pups with a few of my females. Stud fees were also nice.. you could say he paid for himself!! Was a 4x field champ and close to his 5th when I was in my bad wreck and ended up selling off all my dogs .
I guess expensive is different for everyone and relative to what that dog brings to the table. I will tell you good dog food is much more expensive but it's also much better for your dog than corn based food. Much smaller and less turds, better coat, just all round healthier dogs. Very similar to someone that r
Eats fast food soft drinks and junk food vs someone that Eat healthy. Just better physically condition and better health is the result.
My dogs have to “bring something to the table” as you put it. If they don’t, they don’t stay here.
I can pet a good dog just as easy as one that isn’t worth a flip.
I’m aware of cheap dog food. I feed quality dog food. We buy it by the pallet, straight out of the plant. No corn, no soy, omega 3 and 6. 50 lb bags. $22.50 a bag. I feed beaver for 4 months or so through the winter.
