Depends what you're fleshing. I made mine narrow, and it works pretty good for case skinned stuff. Not so much for beaver leg holes though. I used a 1/3 diameter of 6". I'm toying with making a separate beam for beaver, just haven't. I can get measurements, but it'll likely be a few days.

Coon boards make great templates for fleshing beams. Here are a few measurements [Linked Image]

6" beam, second from the right, is used 95% of the time. Watched Coon Creek Outdoors YouTube videos.

I like those, but none of them are 6" pipe...what size pipe were they made of? Looks to be at least 18". Love your setup.

6" pipe is too small for making "wood" style beams.
12" and up is optimal.

If I had only 6"pvs I would just cut it to length and slide it over a wooden post.

Very nice. You did a great job of smoothing it down. And it looks very symmetric
Now for a few hides to flesh to see if you like the taper of the "nose"
I like mine a little more narrow for the first 6-8 inches
But mine are 8+ inches wide

I made mine wider it worked good for fleshing around
beaver leg holes, but had a hard time getting coon down on the beam to start fleshing behind ears, so I narrowed the point down, the coon fits good now but
have a hard time with beaver back leg holes
