Ok gang,, thought this would be interesting,, Do you guys have a favorite trap just because??? Mine would have to be a victor 1.5 longspring. I just like the feel of setting them , how they look And probably because I cut my teeth with them because they were the first traps I ever owned. Nostalgia perhaps?

My just because traps are Montgomeries. Montgomery #3 dogless, Montgomery #1.5 coils, and Montgomery #11s. I own literally hundreds of them but hardly ever use any of them, lol. I just like them. I think they were a great trap for the period in which they were made. There are just other traps that fit the style of trapping I do now better, which is why I hardly ever use them.
You can be sure though that if I were to ever trap coon again I'd be breaking out the Monty 11s, and if I were to ever go to somewhere like PA or MD to trap fox, my #1.5 and #2 RJ Monties would be coming with me.

If I could only have 1 trap it would be offset Victor 1.75 laminated I've never used any of the newer stuff. Such as MB, SLEEPY CREEK, so on to compare. Trapped everything from rats to coyotes with few problems. Have had rats that couldn't pull the trapps out of the bed in certain soil conditions.

The 1.75 Bridger is just a great all around trap. I find them easier to bed than a lot of traps too.
Right now I’m having amnesia and déjà vu at the same time. I think I’ve forgotten this before.

1.75 Bridger o/s with outside lams
I've never tried them. I'll have to get a dozen to try.

1.75 Bridger o/s with outside lams
I've never tried them. I'll have to get a dozen to try. I've only ever had one issue with them, the wimpy pan and dog I weld a washer under the pan and changed out the dogs And I 4 coil mine for because I like lots of pan tension

My first trp was a Vic 1-1/2 too, $1.25, at Orschelin's, but my all time fave is a Vic #4 Jump. Stout as "H", and will hold anything where I live.

I'd say to bury the Montana coyote specials are top notch and to set exposed I am partial to the Sleepy Creek DLS.

My favs so far have been:
Montana #2 Bridger #2 dogless Montgomery #2 dogless (old style, square jaw) Montgomery #2 round jaw (old models with rounded jaws and music wire springs, real similar to the montanas)
I have a lot of other traps I use quite regularly but I am partial to the above ones.

My all time favorite is the no4 victor double long spring. Just loved using it on the beaver line. Crack it open over my knee and set it. Coil springs need a setter to set while in the water. Don't know really why, just loved the way it looks and just seems to me to be about the same as the fur trappers of the 17-18 hundreds.

I think I have caught the widest variety of critters in Old Victor 1 1/2 double jawed coil springs.
