Thanks again everyone. We got to see him in recovery last night. He was barely waking up and still ver loopy after a 13 hour procedure. They got most of it but had to send out a sample to pathology to get an exact determination about it. There are different types of chordomas. They did have a spinal fluid leak so he had it patched with some fat from his thigh and has a drain running down his back to a bag. The tumor was removed through his nose. The surgeons sounded pretty tired but seem to indicate that all had gone well.
Many thanks to all who sent their prayers and good wishes! You’re all family and my son was pleased to hear that so many of you had chimed in. Scariest thing he’s ever had to confront so far in his life.

Sounds like pretty good results then. Now just got to pray that the pathology results come back good. Sorry your son is having to go through all this.

Yotetrapper reminded me I haven’t kept up in my kids progress:
So, he had a setback, the patch to fix a spinal fluid leak failed. A new lumbar drain had to be installed and new surgery to install another patch. This one was included a thin layer of muscle tissue from his thigh. Still no word from pathology on exactly the nature of the tumor.
He’s been hospitalized for 12 days so far. I’m up here day and night right now as was my ex all of last week. He is doing much better now and later today they will clamp the drain and see if the patch holds. If it does he may be able to come home as early as tomorrow.
Poor kid has been through a lot. The install of the new lumbar drain was excruciatingly painful.
