Our neighborhood has a big feedlot that buys 8 to 12 million bushels a year.

Thursday they set a new record for them....they took in 571k bushels. That's in 13hrs, 6am to 7pm. 2.7million for the week

who owns that feedlot marty?? one of the big 3?? how many head do they feed??

what keeps it from rotting when it gets rained on? or does it not rain much there? I bet there may be a job opportunity to get rid of pigeons or a good dove hunting opportunity with all that corn out in the open.

im betting they cover it ... high moisture corn.. then just take the face off each day/// dont show it but id think it would be rolled...them fats in his last pics look ready to go.. they are sure getting them big with these prices

Elevators always pile corn on the ground here. The base of the pile is surrounded with a huge tarp that can be pulled up to cover as the pile grows. Sometimes the piles are left uncovered. Either way, they get moved within a month or two as storage or rail cars become available.

It's high moisture- 24 to 30% - it's run through a grinder, and stacked like silage.


I think think it's about 90k head capacity.

It all gets covered/tarped


That's a good story too. Near as I can tell someone started their own business just going around tarping, and untarping feed at all these feedlots.

New estimate is about 1.7 billion bushel carryover, down from closer to 2. billion. A bit of rally for corn up from the upper $3s to lower $4s on the board. Not as good news for soybeans as there is a global surplus of beans and around here with a really dry last half of August and nearly no rain in September there is a low price and low yield for beans in our area. Green corn is at a premium in our area as the dry windy weather has driced the corn rapidlly. Many are trucking corn into the bins from south of here as we know there won't be near enough corn in our area to feed the livestock. In the red clay around us they have to run a field cultivator or modified disk in front of the manure injectors so they can get the liquid manure in the ground.

I’ve done a ton of that and it’s terrible work. We have a Mexican crew do it now. You are right though a guy can make great money doing it

Vinke I’ve shelled out of a corn crib more than once the guy used to run a uni to fill it, my uncle still has a 2mh sitting in the shed with the f20 to run it.

Marty summit farms does that here I believe the have a liquid sprayed on top to seal it.

Guys here are waiting because the corn isn’t below 18 percent, we’re not but I spent the day on top of a bin fixing the utrough, I learned I’m getting too old to be standing on a bin for 6 hours working on it.

Beans are going balls to the walls now.
The farmer that has the field in front of my cabin combined it yesterday. 40_ 55mph winds. All that debris blew into mine BURYING my pumpkins and Brassica food plots!

Some drifts are 3' deep.

A few out taking corn now. Haven't heard of any yields.
10 day shows warmer then normal with no rains. No doubt gonna go down as one of the best harvest seasons on record.

There are a lot of dead leaves on our drying corn and with 3 days of 20-40 mph winds, yards are full of leaves and any woven fence near a corn field is covered. Just a few miles from us they got .75 inches while we got .2 inches and that was enough to help a lot of the corn fill the kernels so at least quality will be better even with the lower yields. One farmer that I trap on his land stated they had corn from 4 to 13 feet tall in the same field while chopping.
One farmer who is an agronomist also crops about 800 acres and they have 400 plus acres of beans and he said yields were poor but did not disclose a bushel amount. Last year he did a bit over 60 bushels per acre on similar acres.

I went to Bismarck this morning. 110 miles south of me and a lot of the corn was blown down in the 60-80 mph wind we had the other day. Some fields have 60% damage or more some look like no wind at all. I am not sure why some are so bad and others no damage.
