heat it up, and brush it off right on the grill. Just burn it clean by putting it on the base when the coal gets hot enough to spread out.

I got a lodge sportsman cast iron grill I had for years. It’s just me and the wife as kids are gone and it’s perfect for us. I burn stuff off and that all it seem to be all that’s needed I like those very much but I wish they came with a lid as I like to grill low and slow like an oven

heat it up, and brush it off right on the grill. Yep, and just leave it filthy till the next time.

Be careful of wire brushes, one broken off wire can do a lot of harm if you manage to miss it and accidentally ingest it...try a crumpled ball of aluminum foil instead... Saw that on "Monsters Inside Me" dude almost died from it.

YIKES ! Sad story. I just heat mine till it gets hot enough to look "dry". Then wipe the dust off with a paper towel. Wasted money on that cleaner crap. It wouldn't even bring the smoke stains off of the neighboring stainless steel parts.

Like others, I just burn mine off. I also crumple up a piece of aluminum foil and scrub the grill with that.
I have nothing clever to put here.

I used coarse salt on a halved lemon and it helped but this thing needs a heavy duty soaking at some point. I’m a cheapskate and I’m not gonna spend money on new grates that will cost as much as the entire grill!

Try the tin foil and save the lemon for a cocktail. I really didn't want to have to spell aluminum again when we all call it "tin foil" anyway.

The grates on my gas grill are heavy cast iron. after grilling I put the four burners on high for a few minutes to burn off any stuck on food. Then I clean with a wire brush and oil while still warm with a crumpled paper towel.. I oil soon after starting the grill too.
Eh...wot?

165°F kills any bacteria, and a good grill brush removes all food scraps.

Pull the grill out , prop it up against something , spray it down with Easy-Off or whatever brand oven cleaner. Come back 2 hours later , hose it down.
Easy peasy.

get it Ripping hot and wire brush it
I have a gas grill so it is really just go start it leave all the burners on high , forget about it while I get stuff ready for 15-20 minutes , then brush it down quick and slap some meat on and turn down the heat.
America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.
