why is it a pistol brace when its for a rifle???
first thing you need to understand is gun laws make no sense
they were written by people who had no idea what they were doing
and they were often written with a single idea of what they wanted to make illegal in such a way that the courts wouldn't call them out on it and reverse the law
so most of it was done with an Illegal tax that has unfortunately held up
good for us it was written in 1934 when you could buy a car for 500 dollars new
and the 200 dollar tax was intended to keep all but the rich elites from owning any of the items they feared.
also understand that in 1934 when the Gun Control Act was written the nation was in the depths of a depression you most of us have never experienced
as a part of GCA1934 they had written in the complete ban of all pistols , this had to be removed or the courts would have struck it down.
but they left in all of the language they had crafted when they realized if people could not have a pistol as a convenient way to carry a firearm they would just cut down rifles and shotguns , because haven forbid we have a useful compact tool , no they wanted to disarm the people and they saw an opportunity and yes passed this awful legislation literally in the middle of the night in the darkest days of the Great Depression
ok with that little history lesson out of the way , they had decided that both rifles and shotguns needed to have a minimum barrel length of 18inches.
then in 1936 they wrote and exception for 22rimfire guns to have a 16 inch barrel as they were massively common and in regular use.
then in 1968 after they realized the US government had sold a few million violations to the law the M1 carbine through the civilian marksmanship program with it's 17 inch barrel that all rifles could have a minimum 16 inch barrel
on to modern times
so the better lawyers found that there was an exception a "firearm" in the language that was not regulated by GCA34 or 68
a Firearm like say the Mossberg Shockwave needs to have a overall length >26 inches and not have a stock so you have a shotgun with a 14inch barrel and a Birds head grip to get it to 26 1/4 inches
so a company by the name of SB tactical submitted a design for a pistols stabilizing brace
for use to stabilize but not be a "stock" the ATF agreed in writing it was not a "stock" therefor it could be attached to a pistol or firearm with out it making it a rifle.
so more dumb laws like we can keep loaded pistols in our trucks but not loaded rifles
so I introduce you to the Braced pistol , an AR-15 with a pistol stabilizing brace and a barrel of any length
yes it is a bit of a legal end run to many , unconstitutional laws and illegal taxes that never got called out in the courts.
but it gives us useful tools even if they are still slightly handicapped without registering them with the ATF and paying a 200 dollar tax stamp on every one and asking permission to move them when traveling out of state.
I think I just heard old George Washington rolling over in his grave.
from the side it looks like an M4/CAR-15 stock but when you look at it from the end it is a pistol stabilizing brace and it is just a little longer pistol.
that was long but sorry it is difficult to explain stupid
