No reason to hide any legal activitie. Now poachers need to hide things.

I did like to keep my live coyotes as out of sight as possible back when I had a live market. especially since I often ran traps before and between collage classes and may be parked in the farthes most secluded lot on campus but didn't want any issues. my transportation cages has 1/4" round holes more like a filter and I locked them. at best you could see a dog was in there if it was up but they usually just laid down. I also had times I left my truck at mom's and took one of her vehicles to class especially if it was a big catch day.

today I don't think I would go to class with live yotes in the back of my truck . That was over 20 years ago.

I used to strap coyotes on the bumper of my 04 wrangler. Drove into work that way and around every where else
I needed to go when I was finished calling. 99% of the time it got a lot of thumbs up and lead to a lot of good conversations and educating people and a lot of new permission on places to kill their coyotes.

similar responses when I hunted out of a 1985 Chevy chevet and had deer on the hood. lots of positive reactions.

Wisconsin USED to be this way

when my 2 of my kids took hunters ed about 8-10 years ago they had quietly written that out of the regs

and now said to hide it

I make not point to hide it , nor no effort to keep it visible

yes I have driven across the state with 2 bucks on the roof of the mini van it was my only place to put them at the time.

northern WI I was getting thumbs up and good waves
get close to Madistan and scowls were much more common

Side note and I'll never forget it. [ bad experience 】.
Bout 30 years ago,

I had a Toyota truck with a flatbed. I was heading to my furbuyer with it full of fox. Heaped!!
Had to got through a big town to get there.
Stopped at a red light and a car pulled up next to me.
They honked their horn, I turned to look at them and the female passenger was flipping me off big time.
I flipped her off back.
They followed me for along ways even though I took side roads . Honking and harassing me.
Finally, nuff was enuff., I slammed on my breaks with them behind me, bailed out at charged their car.
Her " man" (driving the car) hit Mach 10 in reverse.

The look on their faces is something I'll never forget!

grin

I have a tonneau cover and my catches go in a low flat box in bed under the tonneau and out of site. I park and walk into set locations on the 9 to 10 farms I trap, most of those are well off the road, and while my truck is parked and locked on the side of road at those farms nobody can see what’s in back and it’s all locked up. It’s not so much to avoid offending as it is for security for me. Don’t want anything tempting for some low life to take if it was in plain site to take from bed of my truck. But under the tonneau they at least can’t see the catches or equipment I have back there.

Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.

WI is also online or phone registration so most of the time the deer hang behind the house one night and are cut up , deboned , bagged and in a cooler most of the time now before we head home from deer camp.

but I have also totally skinned and quartered a buck on my front lawn. it was a road kill
I have hung deer in my front yard in town we have an ordinance that for human consumption you may hang any food animal in your yard 48 hours.

I do hide catches when walking back to the truck when it's parked along a public road and a vehicle comes along. I usually drop the fox or foxes I'm carrying and keep walking until they pass then go back for them. One hot spot was along a road that got a good amount of traffic. We started taking a large garbage bag to put dispatched foxes in to hide them on the hundred yard walk back to the truck. I'd rather have people curious about what's in the bag than for them to know I'm killing fox back there. That just opens the door to possible trouble.

I've also hid deer that were killed early in the day. Killed them, field-dressed them and drug them out to the truck. Then covered them over with leaves and went back to hunting. Don't need any dirt bags stealing my meat.

Once they are in the truck and I'm driving they don't get hid. I don't usually go to public places while driving home from hunting or trapping but I have stopped for gas quite a few times with a half-dozen fox or a deer in the bed.

Yup ..I do the same ...when I see a car coming...drop it ...then wait till it clear...to put it in the truck

My catch is inside my truck cap. Not hidden. But windows are tinted. I get asked ?s thru out the day on my line. High populated area I trap in n. People always want to see my catch. I show them.
The general public really don’t get to see fur bearing animals up close. Always a positive outcome for me. smile

It's not my problem if someone is offended by my legal activities.
I don't get offended when I see a manatee in a swimsuit, I just choose not to look.

No, I don’t need to shelter anyone from what I have done. I don’t go out of my way to show it, but if you see it that’s fine. Legal, always. Ethics, meh…..

I don't, I look at it as another chance to talk about trapping, and all the good it does,

About fifteen years ago I pulled into a gas station one evening in the small town closest to my camp. There was a guy at a pump moving frozen coyote carcasses around in the bed of his truck so he could get at his gas cans to fill them up. He had his young son with him.

It made me smile and when he glanced my way I was standing there grinning at them like some sort of idiot. He noticed the bucketful of pre-cut wood stakes sticking above the bed of my truck and recognized that I was also a trapper.

We struck up a conversation and stood there talking so long that the owner of the grocery store/gas station came out to see if everything was alright.

He became one of my best friends and we have had many adventures since then.

It's good we weren't hiding anything or that never would've happened.

Eh...wot?

Seeing critters? Wait until you’re in a crowded convenience store and somebody walks up and asks, “How many dead critters you got in the back of your truck this morning?” lol That turns a few heads and has people looking in the truck that probably wouldn’t have paid any attention.

if you have catches or chainsaws in your truck bed when you stop to gas up , it can easily lead to a 15-20 minute truck bed leaning conversation at the station.
