Looks good , brings out the grain . Does it help preserve the wood? Use a hand held torch? Yes is a old Japanese preservation technique. I used my roofing torch, simulator to a weed burner.

Cool. I assume it hardens the exterior of the wood to make it last. I kind of like it.

You like it because It reminds you of the "Old Days"...... I am sure you have seen that old burned tree standing there until the lack of roots let it fall. I trap property that has burned old growth Ceder that are 8 to 10 feet at the base in good shape. The inside of the tree is missing the outside is 12 feet tall. Coolest camps site you could sleep in
