Who hunts with one. And what load or factory ammo you use. This year will be hunting with my 336 that was refinished from head to toe. My load is a Sierra #2120, IMR-4895. 46 grains. Gets her done with no muss or fuss. But, as always. My Remington in .308 will see action as well. Might just take the M1Garand out for a few hunts in honour of my dad.

I do. 336 also. 150 grain hornady bullets. 35 grains of H335. Hodgdon says 33 now. Been shooting 35 for awhile. No clue why they changed it a few years ago. I have not had any high pressure signs. Old jug New jug

Sarge 46 seems like an awful lot of 4895 to stuff under any bullet my 308 load is 42.5 H4895 46 sounds like a 30-06 load 36 is listed as the max for a 110gr bullet in 30-30 with IMR-4895

I don't see it coming out hunting this year I have a 44 carbine to try this year

I was going too but went shooting over the weekend and old eyes and open sites don't mix well. Lol rear peep and a nice wide blade in front makes it better that way you don't focus on the back sight at all you look through it

Danny, one word. Liability. Some stupid arse forced them do that. No signs of pressure. I say keep loading them and send them downrange. The old thirty thirty is not fancy. I have my dad's 94 that is deep blued with a nickle receiver. He bought it when I was 5 yrs old. I refinished the stock just before his last hunt. One of kind. Absolutely gorgeous. But, we all get hung up on the latest and greatest rifles or magnums at one time or the other. All my rifles are .30 cal. 30/06, 30/30, and my .308 that served me well in the Army. There is just something nostalgic about the old 30/30 I can't shake. It's fun and simple.

Greencountypete, I stand corrected. 35 grains of imr4895. With a 125 grain spitzer. I know, pointy bullets in magazine. I use one in the tube and I in the mag. Rarely use both unless shooting two deer. I was thinking of my M1Garand load with 46 grains.. Thanks for catching my mistake.

there was a really interesting article have see if I can find it now but they were working on a special custom built test gun to see how much pressure they could push in a regular 308 case if they used small rifle primer brass sort of working on the idea of 277 furry more pressure not more capacity.
they got to some crazy high pressures way beyond where you should be they were getting almost 300win mag velocities without pressure signs , just by using small primer 308 brass
yes , Liability a lot of companies do it , books that are 15 years old will have a grain or two hotter I htink they realized people were going to skip the math and not reduce by 10% so they just did the math and and made it the max load so if you blew your gun up it was not current published data.
especially in 30-30 I see no point to hot rodding I don't know what my load is off the top of my head it is written down , I spent a lot more time playing with really light cast bullet loads in 30-30 than I did on a hunting load. back during the 22lr shortage I was shooting a bunch of wheel weights for about a 4 cents a round great fun banging steel at 100 yards

Sites and scopes for elder eyes be a good topic here. I gave a scope to an old guy, had a post rather than hairs. Wish I could get that one back.

Wish I could get that one back. you might want to look at an illuminated dot where the cross hair meet , then you have a glowing dot to put where you want to hit , but it isn't a red dot that gets all distorted by your astigmatism
