Just curious what kinda critter population you anticipate to see in that area on average? Running math in my head, that’s like a dozen sections. So for ease in understanding on paper, a piece covering 4x3 miles. In this world that’s home for a family of 5-6 but likely has three families skirting around it based on geography.

I put more miles on my truck in 6 weeks of trapping cats and coyotes than the rest of the year combined.

I wouldn't be surprised with a catch of at least 20 coyotes, probably more. Normally as you take some, others will fill back in. I've caught 16 in a 900 acre pasture and 18 in a 640 acre pasture.

We have coyotes that arre still worth something. I averaged just short of $20 last year. But that was last year, might be 0 this year.

I think there was a bounty in the 70? for 50$ a coyote in NE

I used to get .25cents per front foot for gopher in Iowa in the 60s

If you are retired not a big deal. If you are working an 8 -10 hour a day job 24 hour checks are tough.

I'd do it (you're retired).

If you dont, you'll always wish you had.

I trapped a large tract of timberland (42,000 acres) for 7 years a while back. It was 30 miles from my home to front gate. But, it was 19 miles from that front gate to the back gate (quickest route possible). I was working a full time job during those years, so I took off to trap that place.

It was a great trapline....in a near wilderness setting.

In some country, trapping a “short run” of a week or two you MIGHT have one family group to mess with on that size a parcel and maybe one more adjacent.

Don’t try to justify it monetarily at all.

Because there is no way “just short of $20” is anywhere near substantial in this economy.

Sounds like a good plan. Throw everything you got at em. Cleaned out a beaver pond for a farmer in 24 hours like that, 9 beaver including the breeder.

Not driving 30 miles for 80 acres, for 8000 and the critters are there, I probably would make that drive . Youd do more driving just running a more traditional line. Ive driven farther just to trap beaver but beaver are easier to catch and usually brought more money.

Thanks. Completely different world there compared to here. Around here there's somewhere between 75-125 people per square mile depending on what county I'm in. Most sections are carved up and have many property owners. In more rural areas there would still usually be 2-3 primary owners with a handful of houses carved out on the road. Upside is with so many owners you can find someplace to access the critters and not be shut out of a large area completely BUT it may require alot of asking. AND quite often you are not going to get to the most ideal ground with the major travel corridors or congregation spots but may end up setting in the less frequented spider web of travels with a long wait between visits.

Trap it hard and have fun doing it because we are not promised tomorrow.
