The rifle has no will of its own it may be used for evil but there are more good men than evil men and evil will be corrected by good men with rifles.

Bull hunt or cow? What units do you have ? We've hunted it several times.

Haha, there's no honor in shooting a teddy elk.

Pequops south of the 80. Cow tag. Fresh tracks on the ground, and of course they're so big it's probably a massive bull. Scat, found a spring not marked on maps. A box canyon the monster track lead into. Have a great vantage point over the gully leading into the canyon. More scouting this evening. It would be awesome to see a big bull, even if all I can do is look and drool.

I can stay out here all season if I need to. I'm coming home with meat.

Man i would and will help if you need it but all of my hunting has been north of 80 in that area. I wish you good luck and say we heard the bulls screaming every year we've been and our hunts started on the 1st of October.

My season ends Oct 5. I get scraps for the dogs from our local butcher and he pointed to two mounted.bulls on his wall and said they came from the area I'm hunting. Said he's never been skunked. The success rate in this zone is above 50% so chances are real good. From what I've read the water holes are what I need to look for. Since all the marked ones are taken I assume, I glassed a nice wet spot today that is not marked, and there's fresh tracks down the trails I walked. I scratched them all out so nobody else gets any ideas. Tomorrow I'll sit the lookout then head into the roadless area. I want to be careful to not leave sign that will get me busted by the elk. There's scat in good quantity so I know they're here.

Indeed they do. I believe Davis splintered off from Colorado Tent Company. The 12x14 wall tent I bought from them in '87 is still in very good shape and has never leaked. From what I understand Davis continues this tradition of using quality canvas.

Side note: I have an emergency repair kit I bring along on all canvas camps. It includes a small sheet of canvas, scissors, and a couple tubes of shoe goo. You never know.

Fer sure on the repair kit! I throw a couple grommets and a grommet tool in the kit as well.

I think Davis only uses the “Sun Forger” canvas. It’s uv and mold resistant. They also carry packing supplies. I bought some packing equipment from them when we still had our horses and mules. Great guys to work with.

You've got a drive ahead of you. WY has too many elk, what a problem to have. Good luck. I heard one shot this morning but it was many miles away. Seeing lots of sign in my spot. the neighboring campers say I'm crazy, I'll have to eat it to get it out. City slickers don't know how to use the lay of the land to travel.

Not going home empty handed. The boy has been harvesting pinion pine nuts. They are really tasty.

Yesterday as I was walking back from my roost I noticed some bobcat droppings. They're really old and white. I took them anyway to use for sets this winter. Well Mr Kitty must have noticed because this morning there's bobcat tracks past my camp and all the way up the trail to my roost.

Another interesting thing today. After 5 days of sitting one hill I decided to move around this morning. Sitting no more than an hour in different overlooks, some I have not been to. Another morning of seeing nothing I decided I was going to the nastiest, steepest, darkest area I can find. On my way there in the trail I was overlooking for a brief period today was a fresh pee with all fours in perfect placement. It's a spike bull I can tell because the urine ran onto it's right rear hoof while it was still planted. But he's not the only elk using this trail. At least now I know the area I'm watching is frequented daily by these illusive oversized ungulates. The adventure continues.
