Not sure the status of the company, I do however have about a half dozen that no matter what I do, the trigger engagement keeps slipping off the dog and the trap will not stay set. Does anybody have a remedy for that?

Are you setting it right ? I never had a problem with the Z trap like you're saying. Are you talking about the cage trap, never heard of a Z trap cage trap.

Can't imagine a Z trap not staying set, but if the little pin is sliding off the flat spot on the dog, you might try filing a flat spot on the round pin. Does it fire when dropping in bait?
And as for the Coon Daggers, closer look and I now see body and most of the parts are stamped out from sheet metal.....then folded, then welded. Getting hold of the dies used to stamp those parts out would be a big help to anyone wanting to copy them.

Seems likely that Carlis has not payed the maintenance fees on the patents and that causes them to be listed as expired/abandoned. I am not a patent expert, so I am not sure how it works after the patent owner passes away, but in any case a patent expires after 20 years. Carlis filed his first patent in 2012, and his last one in 2019. Fees are due at 3.5, 7.5, and 11.5 years after filing to get the full 20 years. The 2019 patents would have fees due at around 2023 or so, and the last dagger patent was 2014, so would have a fee due around or a little before the time of his passing in 2021, and then another one next year or so.

its a bit difficult for Carlis to pay anything at the moment....
The patents that Carliss had would be part of his estate upon his passing unless he had made other arrangements for them. And if none of his heirs recognized the value of them, they probably have not invested to keep them up to date to realize the maximum value of the 20 years. I have no idea what the legalities of infringing on them in abandoned status.

I have that problem with slipping off the pin. They seem to work okay once I get them set. I will rough up that pin the next time I set them. I just set off because I will be gone for a few days now.
Thanks

I am having the same issue with mine as well. Frustrating to put it mildly. I have one pin that's pretty much flat on one side and it still won't stay set.

Ztraps is alive and well. Neil has been trying to keep up with cage and tube trap orders. Lots of business this summer. There was also a glitch at the DP works that’s been worked out so he’s going full bore again.
I’ve had the dog-pin issue with a couple Ztraps, also. It was frustrating when it happened. A file on the pin seemed to fix it.
Never too old to learn
