You have one of the best trapline threads on here. Always like checking in sporadically.

Thanks all. Im glad you enjoy following. There was a point roughly half way down the line where I felt tired as I had very little sleep in the previous 3 nights leading up to the trip. My schedule that week was packed full with kids hockey, field work, trapline prep, bait and gear prep, etc. Knowing we still had about 30km of rough trail to open on top of setting traps seemed like a big task that night. we listened to some distant wolf howls as we enjoyed a good cup of tea and some bannock with caribou meat fixed me up so I set the wolverine trap that ended up connecting and we carried on. i woke up in the tent the next morning feeling satisfied that i had pulled it all off, getting everything done on my list that week left me feeling satisfied and full of anticipation for the traps to connect. We boiled up wolf gear and stocked fire wood at the tent well into the evening before having a good peaceful sleep. The next day on the way back to the road we crossed wolf tracks so we set 10 snares and 3 traps with a beaver chopped up and scattered around. The original reason I started sharing pictures and videos on youtube/trapperman was so the old timers that couldnt get out anymore could still see some of the familiar sights and sounds of the hunting and trapping lifestyle. Now today after work Ive got day 1 of teaching a group of youth how to trap. Day 2 tomorrow then time to pack up for the first real trapline check after 5 night of sitting. Hopefully the wolves found our gear and same for the other much bigger set of fresh wolverine tracks we seen.

Yes you are correct that You Tube takes a bunch of time and equipment is expensive. People dont want to watch hand bombed footage anymore either. so setting up tripods and flying drones and adjusting good lenses to get interesting shots. that all takes a lot of time. But think about us OLD TIMMERS that dont get out, we want to enjoy the wilderness too.
Where that pack killed that moose in Bombardier Ch I bet you they will come back there every month to sniff around. Maybe once the ice road is in be nice to throw a walking snare line out there. Lots of people over here trying to get rid of expired ukaruk.
Some wolverines have not much for neck markings. Remember that one guy on here talked about the different sub species of wolverine and some had fewer neck markings. I forgot who that was but be interesting to look at his post again see if we still agree with his groupings. Bubba's wolverine neck markings are really pail also. i wonder if it has something to do with time of year?

Really faded neck markings, You guys in Alaska notice any change in marking brightness as the season goes on or you think its genetic?

Very first trap of the weekend check.
It was still soft so we got it skinned at the tent

Good run this weekend. Had a fox eat a few marten but he found a 330 and he won't be eating any more. Lots of foxes this year. I hope they don't all get a taste for marten. Had another wolverine get pinched for a bit but he got out. I'm thinking he got a paw in the 280. Wolves were on the trail overnight again so I'll see what gear I have in town and get that ready for the next trip

The tent. It sure is a welcome sight after a long ride.

Trail maintenance. We try to do at least a coupl bad spots each ride out

Made a few snares yesterday at home. Tried coming to work but felt a bit sick so I left early. Wolves are running the line hunting moose and caribou so we'll set their trails and hopefully find a fresh kill. Almost All my wolf traps are at my camp so the two I had in town are set as well as 5 of my partners. I think I'll extend some chain on 5-6 no bs traps and get those set next trip

Last night about 0230 coming home from Inuvik there was a marthe in the middle of the ice road. Just past junction. Also so many foxes they run straight at the truck

You probably didnt see Snoop Dog with her in the dark.
