The tape isn't over the mag well. The tape is behind the magazine release, the magazine goes in front of the release.

My buddy bubbaed his up with a scope mount on the receiver cover. On a 4x4 sheet of cardboard at 100yds, one hole after 3 shots. Buddy says “maybe they went through the same hole?”….lol. The last SKS I sold had a proper mount tapped into the receiver and a 1981 USSR night vision scope on top. That gun could consistently group around 4”. I should’ve never sold that gun for 4 times the $ I had into it. On the other hand, it’s probably the reason my right eye is slightly worse than the left. When I turned the scope on it sounded like a little reactor running inside…lol
