Iodized or not means nothing. I have no idea how that myth became so popular. Any bag of fine sale is fine. That’s the first time I’ve ever heard that! Thank u I can’t even tell you WHERE I heard it. Maybe an old taxidermy book Lot of the tanning recipes out there call for non iodized salt. No reason for it other than someone at one point in time thought iodine affected the process and people just accepted it as fact.

Clorox pool salt. It is as fine as table salt. Half the size of the fine feed salt. If you use it to salt dry hides it is the best salt you will find. It is a seasonal thing at our Walmart.
Bought 800 pounds 2 years ago at the local Walmart. Got on a clearance sale for $5 a 40lb bag.

We have an Amish-run dry goods store near here that sells any amount of non-iodized salt from a pound to a hundred pounds. That's where I get mine and also where I get my bulk coriander, roasted cornmeal and buckwheat flour for making scrapple.
Maybe you have something similar near you?

Maybe you have something similar near you? Yip, love it. Mennonite owned, I think

Grocery stores sell non iodized in 1 pound right next to the iodized if you only want to start out with a pound or two.Less than a buck a box. This.
