Kinda odd. Living in the New England area , if you are prepared you have things on hand for the occasional NorEaster , food , fuel etc.

I quizzed a friend who lives in Florida about the craziness of people fighting over the last sheet of plywood at home depot as a storm is bearing down. If I lived there , I would have a piece of plywood cut and labeled for each window/door ready to go for an incoming storm at all times. I asked him why people there didn't do that. He told me that some did but others would use those dedicated pieces of plywood to build stuff forgetting that they would need them in a crisis. Just dumb if you ask me. Makes about as much sense as me throwing away my snow shovels after a hard winter.

Florida is full of folks "not from around here". Old Florida crackers know their stuff right down to the architecture with structures built from the ground up to resist hurricanes.

As for Georgians and this storm. This one was way off the predicted course.

We aren’t exactly in a hurricane prone area, lol. Normally it’s just rain we get, not a Cat 2 or 1 barreling through the State. We don’t live on the coast.
Yeah we get tornadoes and if you’re in the path there’s no prep you can do. A hurricane is just a 2-6hr tornado…just depends how fast it’s moving. I have spotty internet at best and we won’t have our WiFi until later this week, but I think it went through that area as a Cat 2. A lot of homes here aren’t built for that kind of hit. Plywood, sandbags, etc ain’t doing a thing for ya when it’s sustained winds 70-100mph for hours. Then take the fact they can’t even predict remotely where it will hit or the path and that makes it worse.

Just shut down 3 freezers and crammed all the trapping-related baits, glands, etc into one freezer and our frozen food into another. This should save on generator fuel at the shop with only 2 freezers running (saved more than 10 lbs of castor and about 8 lbs of full oil sacs along with more than 50 beaver tails). Was able to close the lid...barely.

Hopefully they get your power back going soon, a day or two without it is one thing but weeks is another! Ive never seen such devastation that far inland before. No clue how many years it will take to rebuild roads and bridge's from pictures ive seen in NC and Tn. No preparing for any of that!

Yeah....Jackie.....I'm gonna be quite ill after a few more days of no power....but told the wife this morning to try and overlook my sudden outbursts.

I have to ride down to the Plantation just to get cell service, but everyone this way is talking about how we dodged a bullet. I was finally able to look and that hurricane was nowhere close to the projected path.
The only issue we’ll have now is potential flooding from the Flint. It won’t affect me, but it will for many people I know and Albany. We had flooding in ‘94 and ‘98. I did see they’ve already lowered Blackshear a lot and got the dams South sending water down as fast as they can in anticipation of what’s to come.
Hopefully our State will be spared of any further Tropical Storms or Hurricanes at least the rest of this year!!

Should be halfway to y'all. Been watching the river gages up here and it's been falling since yesterday. Hope we get a decent spell of dry to let it all get downstream and back in the gulf.

Yep...Alapaha River flood coming. Supposed to hit minor flood stage next week, and that'll cut off the slough crossings on both my local leases... mad

Not a major problem, but heck! It's time to deer hunt and can't access some of the properties.

Slightly less than 36% of the people living in Florida were actually born there. Most people in Florida come from states or other countries, that don't have hurricanes.

This debris rake sure saved me some time today. Raked entire yard...big tree limbs and small tree limbs into a pile in about 2 hours. I borrowed this one, but I've got to buy me one of these.
