Anyone have any advice how to curtail this? Happened twice to my truck two in the last few weeks and it’s getting expensive. Searched for some products to help and may start with the mint spray. Any advise would be much appreciated.

I wage war with them. When you thin them out, you only have a problem once in a while when the occasional wanderer comes along.

I bait two traps and keep them on my truck's engine block. I have them on a line , tied to the hood frame so they wont fall where they are hard to reach when I get one.

It's a habit...a bit of a pain, but you get used to it. As soon as I park, pop the hood, place the traps back on the block, lower the hood just enough to see that's its open a little, then check and pull the traps when I want to go somewhere. A lot like a block heater I use in cold temps. You just get used to plugging it in after you park, then unplugging before you leave.

Mice smell the peanut buttah right away before they try to wreck havoc in my engine.

You can do the bottle roller and bucket trap, that Patrice has so much success with...but here I found raccoons, and skunks love getting into them. They have to be off the ground high enough.

I used sliced up Irish Spring soap with great results. Sliced the long way and thin. Lay pieces where possible. Put others in onion bags and hang or stuff in nooks and crannies. Irish spring soap is cheap.
There are store bought alternatives such as mothballs.
This and trapping them.

for me it was squirrels

they like to eat gas lines and gas caps and gas filler necks

funny thing is they leave all the Diesel cans alone it will be the exact same filler neck on an identical can sitting next to each other
but wit diesel (yes I am a horrible person I put diesel in red cans but I label them) in it and they leave it alone

so some used motor oil and some off road diesel in a spray bottle to spray the under bits of my truck any time I am working on it.
obviously avoid getting it on exhaust

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

Neighbor had squirrels destroy the wiring on their combine so asked if I could trap a few. Took 83 fox, grey and red squirrels in two weeks plus a few dozen chipmunks. Awful quite for awhile afterwards!

Squirrels and chipmunks do it as well. Trap the little so and so's. Set a bunch of snap traps under the car or truck or whatever.

I have never had this issue guess I'm lucky or just have had to many cats for years. The cat #s are way down now that I have been taking the females in to be fixed so it may become an issue.

Before we got moved in about anytime I was in the barn and moved something a mouse would take off. That quit when we got the cats up here. So maybe I'm just lucky or maybe it's the cats keeping the mice #s down. Even with the cats I will still get a few mice in the house in winter typically.

Try spraying under the hood with PineSol, it keeps coons out of the garbage cans until I get rid of them and supposed to work on bears in garbage cans too.

and trap them hard....they ain't pets!

Rodent’s teeth continue to grow throughout their life. They will gnaw on things like wires to keep their teeth sharp. And in newer vehicles, the wire insulation is soy based….so it is even more attractive to them. I spray all the wiring on my seven ATVs with caspian pepper spray, they don’t want to chew on it. A couple years ago, I made my own spray out of Carolina Reaper peppers. It worked great.

most new wiring is insulated with a soy based product, so a treat that actually attracts mice. red squirrels and mice out here and they both love that stuff. we use poison in bait stations in the garage and shops.

I left a trailer out in the woods to fill up with firewood to bring home, and the squirrels destroyed all the wiring for me!
