Have been looking around and can't seem to find any ideas.
Wondering about using them for coyote and wolf bait. I seem to have an abundance what fall into my water buckets in my greenhouse every year.
Should I keep the whole or grind em up like mice and use em that way. Or just throw them over the hill for the birds?
Also I know this one is odd but how about using them for marten?

Any natural food such as rodents, squirrels, gophers will make excellent bait. Cut them into chunks and use fresh or age to your liking. Don't over think things.

Yes they should work for marten, I've used ground squirrels that I've shot in the summer and threw in the freezer for marten with good success.

Probably a stupid question.
After I take them out of the freezer during winter to use on the line, should I use them frozen or thawed so the smell can be little more abundant before they refreeze in the hole?

The colder it is the more important location becomes. Also wind currents. Predators have amazing noses. If they didn't winter would be double difficult. I am of the opinion martens are not picky. I have caught them on chunks of prairie dog. An animal I am certain is not anywhere in marten habitat.

I was told by a trapper to skin a squirrel and stick the hide on a corn cob like a scarecrow and set the trap in front of it then wipe lure on the hide and put a little bait under it. Idk if it works or not but he said it worked great lol

They stuff down the hole better when frozen.
