Drives me nuts when I'm in right lane doing 5 mph over the posted speed limit. Look in rear view mirror and see this. This wasn't 20 mph in a 15 mph so not like anyone is stopping quick if something happens.
This is a big rig so a little more annoying that the Usual 30 something in car or SUV.
I just don't get what people gain by driving up someone's rear end I'm not going to go any faster.. This guy finally moved to the left and passed me. Then moved back to the right so I was behind him at the next stop light 1/2 mile up road.
Guess he showed me.
What does everyone think ? Should I call the 800 number on the truck and see if they want the photos I have?
Getting so a guy should have a dash cam both facing front and back.

Maybe the driver of the big rig was trying to see if you were on your phone and driving distracted by taking photos.

If he had room to pass you on the right, why were you driving in the left lane?

I assume you mean b/c someone was in front of you and you were waiting on them as well.
I hate when I'm following someone and the person behind me acts like I am the one in their way... hey buddy were both waiting on this dipstick in front of me.

Dipstick = person in left lane with people behind them and no one in front of them and they not getting over.

EXACTLY! People that camp in the left lane annoy the snot out of me! Use the left lane to actively pass someone and then get back in the right lane where you belong.

What bugs me is the folks who pass me and whip right back over with 8 ft of space between me and them.

Left lane is the passing lane; not supposed to camp-out there. If you do happen to be spending some time in the left lane and see someone coming up on you, you're supposed to move to the right..

before dash cams and all the recording devices I heard about a crazy Ironworker I knew( dead now) that had a small hatch back car with sun roof and was car pooling with 3 other guys. they were on a 2 lane hwy and the truck was closer than your picture could not see the bumper just the grill. the sun roof was open and he stuck his arm out of it and emptied his 38 back into the grill of the semi. no aiming just arm out of the sun roof pointing behind the car and bang, bang, bang, bang, bang, bang. The truck backed off fast and the cops never showed up at the plant we were working and never heard a thing about it. Now I would not believe that story but I knew the guy and everyone in the vehicle. It happened.


Had a semi try to run a young girl off the road I personally saw around the same time. It was late night 2 or 3 am I think in MO or IL on interstate 64. It was a long flat area and I was following about 150 yards behind my girlfriend. A semi passed us both slowed beside her then passed her. once he was in front of her he shined a bright light in his mirrors back into her eyes, she slowed down, then he started swalearving across both lanes and the shoulder back and forth whilst slowing down further. It was late summer and dry he was kicking up a lot of dust going off the road some when swerving back and forth.

I speed up caught up and he quit swerving as I got closer. I got up beside him just a little behind about even up to his sleeper before he saw my window down and decided to speed up faster than my 1988 Isuzu trooper could go and he was out of sight quickly. I have often wondered how many of the missing girls you see posters of that man was responsible for. I would never have believed it had I not seen it and experience it. I was just over 18 and in shock when it started not understanding what was going on for a while until he had slowed them down to around 45mph then it clicked.

There is a movie like that. A semi driver with hundreds of graves in his back yard.

Yup, it's (un)common decency, and the LAW in some places...

Speed limits are the law too, but nobody pays attention to those either.

Most drivers today don't have patience today everybody wants to get to where they are going quick.

On multilane highways slower traffic is to the right,faster traffic is to the left.
Not good to be constantly changing lanes to pass,just keep up with the flow of traffic in the lane you are in and stay there until its time to exit..
What bugs me is the retards weaving in and out of traffic on a 6 lane highway to pass everybody on right and left.
Usually see them in the ditch,in an accident or pulled over by a cop down the road.

I move over. Sometimes I feel like driving faster too so I like to be able to pass if I want to.

In Alaska its a $500.00 fine to use the left lane as a driving lane!

With the influx of new drivers that have showed up this year driving has become dangerous. One of them was just killed pulling out in front of an empty set of doubles Ore Truck!

We just finished working on a RR overpass and the speed limit was 45. about 1/2 of the cars obeyed but the others don't slow down. I used to carry a can of upside down PINK line paint in my back pocket for speeders that come to close to me working on the highway!

I also move over unless it is in town.

people just need to beat out the other guy in todays screwed up society....be ahead of him, prove your smarter, better and the list goes on.

My thoughts exactly . Here it law for slower traffic to keep right . Nothing more annoying than a slower vehicle in the left lane .

This is where I’m at on the subject. You admitted to driving over the speed limit yourself but the impression is that you had a superior right to set everyone else’s speed to yours by becoming a rolling road block. You should have moved over.

I've read that in Europe, the penalty for failure of slower traffic to keep right is worse than a DUI.

And i think it should be.

What if the right lane is full of potholes?

Go fast enough to sail right over them!

Move over to it long enough for the people behind to pass and then move back to the left. Very simple

In NH ..the far left lane ..is the fast lane .

If iam doing 5 ovah the limit ..I don't drive in that lane

It's very simple.

Right lane = speed limit or slower lane.

Left lane = fast or passing lane

It isn't that hard. Driving slow and impeding the flow of traffic in the left/PASSING lane is dangerous. Go look on youtube at the dangers it poses.

I don't get how anyone who has been driving in America for all their life doesn't get this. It ain't rocket science. I don't like looking like an inconsiderate/stupid driver.

Now Mexicans on the other hand..........

1. Complain to your state DOT.

2. Let your congressman know.

3. Let your state rep know.

4. Get over in the fast lane and speed up to that lanes flow of traffic.

5. Stay home or let someone who is able drive.

These were your States.

I rarely drive in left lane I'm a right lane try to do the speed limit not go crazy guy. Left lane is for angry people and the one that apparently drive way better than me.

If I'm in a squeeze for lane options, and there's a string of traffic , all trying to merge off the ramp, onto the hiway, at times I'll move into the left side so I won't need to negotiate those cahs all trying to merge in front and behind me. I don't go slower, howevah.

Ill speed up til the right lane isn't so impacted, then move back there.

I prefer to keep the cah length military distance along the way.

Our asphalt mix design doesn't stand up well from rain. August was wet here and pot holes were everywhere, patched now. The worst one I saw was 2 feet in diameter and a foot deep and was there for a bunch of days! alignment destroyer......

yes call. tailgating is dangerous. its also a major violation on license if ticketed.

If you have 40 tons under your butt and you like to tailgate in an attempt to gain 15 seconds your an idiot.

Or tell them where their truck is and they should send another driver out to get it the one that's was driving it is no longer capable. Some us us don't have the best reactions to dangerous drivers especially after having someone kill one of our kids and put them and their wife in icu for two weeks. Got to tell you though sitting in court is no fun and lawyers are expensive. It's just a good example of why you should always be polite. You never know what others are or have gone through.

On my to a job this morning I was in the left lane of I35 coming in to KC. About 100 yards behind the guy in front of me matching his speed. Avoiding the traffic coming on. Pickup comes around me on the right accelerating. Bout caused a crash with folks getting on. I get to my exit 3-4 miles and pickup is still only 100 yards ahead of me. I did not speed up. Stupid

I know I blew it when I initially typed this up with lane position wrong.
The main point though whether I'm in right or left lane. If the person behind me is only matching my speed. Why follow so close?
Where this took place the speed limit is posted at 45 mph, four lane two each way. I was in the right hand lane.. It had my cruise set at 50 mph so yes I was speeding myself , but as many like to say .. that was the flow of traffic at that time. Car in front of me I did not gain on and had plenty room. . This truck followed me for a mile or more. I don't care what was in the left lane or why he didn't move over ..not my problem.
Back to the original question..
What do people gain by following so close?
This happens to me on a piece of two lane state highway I drive regularly. It's an easy enough road to drive not a lot of double yellow posted speed limit 55 mph. I will often set my cruise a 56-57 just so I'm not the Sunday driver. Even though Im in no hurry. It's very rare I gain on anyone. Often I have people who come up behind and blow by. Then there are times were two or three are following at a reasonable distance. Some one blows past us all. I have ended have to brake so they get back right without a head on. Then there are the ones that crawl up my back side and just stay there. I just don't get that. Back off or go around the speed is the same.. What is the gain following me at 55 mph so close I can't see you headlights in rear view mirror..

If I'm being tailgatesd and im driving the speed limit I just slow down 5 miles an hour.
If they still tailgait another 5. Sometimes I'll get passes and they flip me there IQ.

I worked at a shop the relined brake shoes for heavy trucks. There is no way I am staying in front of a truck that wants to follow me that close.
