What if the right lane is full of potholes?

Go fast enough to sail right over them!

Move over to it long enough for the people behind to pass and then move back to the left. Very simple

In NH ..the far left lane ..is the fast lane .

If iam doing 5 ovah the limit ..I don't drive in that lane

I rarely drive in left lane I'm a right lane try to do the speed limit not go crazy guy. Left lane is for angry people and the one that apparently drive way better than me.

If I'm in a squeeze for lane options, and there's a string of traffic , all trying to merge off the ramp, onto the hiway, at times I'll move into the left side so I won't need to negotiate those cahs all trying to merge in front and behind me. I don't go slower, howevah.

Ill speed up til the right lane isn't so impacted, then move back there.

I prefer to keep the cah length military distance along the way.

Our asphalt mix design doesn't stand up well from rain. August was wet here and pot holes were everywhere, patched now. The worst one I saw was 2 feet in diameter and a foot deep and was there for a bunch of days! alignment destroyer......

yes call. tailgating is dangerous. its also a major violation on license if ticketed.

If you have 40 tons under your butt and you like to tailgate in an attempt to gain 15 seconds your an idiot.

Or tell them where their truck is and they should send another driver out to get it the one that's was driving it is no longer capable. Some us us don't have the best reactions to dangerous drivers especially after having someone kill one of our kids and put them and their wife in icu for two weeks. Got to tell you though sitting in court is no fun and lawyers are expensive. It's just a good example of why you should always be polite. You never know what others are or have gone through.

On my to a job this morning I was in the left lane of I35 coming in to KC. About 100 yards behind the guy in front of me matching his speed. Avoiding the traffic coming on. Pickup comes around me on the right accelerating. Bout caused a crash with folks getting on. I get to my exit 3-4 miles and pickup is still only 100 yards ahead of me. I did not speed up. Stupid

I know I blew it when I initially typed this up with lane position wrong.
The main point though whether I'm in right or left lane. If the person behind me is only matching my speed. Why follow so close?
Where this took place the speed limit is posted at 45 mph, four lane two each way. I was in the right hand lane.. It had my cruise set at 50 mph so yes I was speeding myself , but as many like to say .. that was the flow of traffic at that time. Car in front of me I did not gain on and had plenty room. . This truck followed me for a mile or more. I don't care what was in the left lane or why he didn't move over ..not my problem.
Back to the original question..
What do people gain by following so close?
This happens to me on a piece of two lane state highway I drive regularly. It's an easy enough road to drive not a lot of double yellow posted speed limit 55 mph. I will often set my cruise a 56-57 just so I'm not the Sunday driver. Even though Im in no hurry. It's very rare I gain on anyone. Often I have people who come up behind and blow by. Then there are times were two or three are following at a reasonable distance. Some one blows past us all. I have ended have to brake so they get back right without a head on. Then there are the ones that crawl up my back side and just stay there. I just don't get that. Back off or go around the speed is the same.. What is the gain following me at 55 mph so close I can't see you headlights in rear view mirror..
