If so, what activities did kids sign up for?

And do you see any benefit to it?

Easy to vote your way into socialism, but impossible to vote your way out of it.

Our granddaughter is now a senior in HS and had been in 4-H since the first year of being eligible. She has had many projects over the years with the the animal ones being rabbits, chickens, sheep and dog obedience.
She has served as a jr leader and leader and an officer for several years now. Her mom has been the leader of the club for several years as well.

Youth Development Through Shooting Sports rifle instructor for eight years (3 of which after my kid aged out). It was the most rewarding thing I have ever done paid or unpaid.

My two oldest were active members. The real benefit I saw was them learning to start and finish projects - the need to see things through.

My sons were in 4H at age 11.

We got them a pair of sheep...and called the place " Just Two Farm ".

Best thing we ever did.

Now that he's older...he still has a show flock of sheep

And all his friend are from when he grew up in 4h.

They have a blast showing in the open shows at the various Fairs

wife is running forestry and helping with or running the chicken stuff amongst other things. The boys do all kind of things probably over 20 projects a year and alway have several go to state. it's a great program and takes a ton of work from lots of volunteers. I recommend it to everyone.

Grew up in 4-H and FFA. Shooting sports, woodworking and swine back in the day. Brothers showed sheep as well, I wanted nothing to do with them. My kids were also in 4-H....did some arts stuff and also showed swine.

If a kid only had time for one main activity, Id have them in 4-H or FFA long before sports. I think they learn a lot more life lessons and responsibilities.

My first project was “Muskrat Trapping”, that was some fifty years ago. I think it’s still a project choice now. Kids learn stuff they don’t teach at school.

I would of loved 4H and really wish I would have been in it. It would have greatly shortened my learning curve, saving me time and money. I grew up in the suburbs and never heard of 4H, until I was in college. My girlfriend was big into 4H back in Upstate, New York. She did what for me would have been boring activities like flower arranging, cooking, baking and sewing, though I did benefit from her knowledge of those activities. We went to the Erie County Fair in New York, which was the largest County Fair in the US. There was an amazing number of interesting activities that 4H kids did.

I sell to a lot of parents, whose kids do 4H now. I recommend 4H to people, for their kids, frequently.

Alfred Belmont Graham, the founder of 4H, was born in 1868 in Champaign County, Ohio not far from where I live now. He was a distant cousin of mine.

4H does a lot of interesting activities and teaches children many valuable skills. I strongly believe 4H helps kids develop into better people. I highly recommend all parents look into enrolling their children in 4H.

Keith

All 4 of my kids showed livestock, 1 makes his living raising show animals. My daughter and her husband raise a few goats , steers and pigs. They also have 6 of their 7 kids who show.

Ya i think 4h and ffa is a good deal , its like travel ball in any sport , its all about where and how you want to spend your time and money.

Fyi FFA is the world's largest youth organization. All they way into college.

Been years but most all of them. Everything from painting gourds to raising rabbits chickens, turkeys ducks hogs and beef. Had a couple of great 4H leaders. Wife and I got involved too. I think thats the secret. Get involved yourself.

I did a lot in 4-h didn’t join ffa until my junior year because of it not being available before that, and in my case I wished I could have joined sooner as most in my 4-h club didn’t go to my school I’m still friends with them but would have been easier when it came to fair time if I’d been around people more.

if you don't currently this is a great opportunity to make the program what you want it to be.

I have been a shooting sports leader since 2010 and was the committee chair for several years.

I was also the superintendent for natural sciences for several years

shootings sports , foods , cake review , photography , several art pieces , quilting , ceramics , dog project , rabbit project

I took kids to camp a few times 7th and 8th graders adventure camp with canoeing
