It's always good to educate. I've used the my hand in a trap to demonstrate it doesn't harm the target animal and made some really good friends because of it.

It's pretty amazing considering that they have no problem sticking an arrow in an animal.

In the early to mid 1970's , the anti's had a bill to outlaw trapping in Ohio.
I would go into office buildings and explain how traps aren't what the anti's claim.
The anti's propaganda had dogs with three legs and a foot missing off the fourth leg.
Claimed it was because of trapping.
Anyone that lived in the country in the 50' and 60's knows those dogs lost their foot in a Sycle bar hay mower.
Almost every farmer had a three legged dog.
The dogs would follow the farmer in the fields , and start chasing mice or something and get caught in the Sycle bar mower.
At that time the biggest trap we could use for fox was the Victor No. 2 , which is outlawed today in Ohio.
Any way I would set it and place it on a desk, then stick my index finger in it to set it off.
Hold my hand up and explain that my finger isn't hurt or cut .
And that this is the largest trap legal in Ohio.
Yet almost every hunter hates traps, because they don't have any knowledge of them
Same with snares, they're afraid their dogs will die in a snare.
Not saying it can't happen , but if it does it's the hunters fault for not knowing how to control their dog in a snare.
99% Of dogs treat a snare like a collar , and don't fight it.
Even most animals are still alive and waiting unless in an entanglement set.
I agree 100% that we as trappers should visit hunting clubs and educate them on traps and snares.
Most of the members are from the city, and have no idea about property lines or landowners rights.
Any more they look at a map of the hunting areas and just go hunting and never even ask if they can hunt.

This definitely was just a dude trapping. No attention was brought to the foot. I just happened to notice.

Nature is brutal and I don't think anything we (reasonable individuals) do is worse than nature itself.

I have a good friend that was 100% anti AR 15, and more specifically high capacity magazines.
He was one of the many uninformed that believed that AR stood for assault rifle. I took the time to have him out to do some shooting and explain an AR to him and let him see for himself that they're not what is depicted in the movies.
Now he owns 5 of them, 4 being custom builds.

2 weeks ago I took several #2&3 Bridgers and a couple MB 550 traps to work to weld on laminations and extend-a-pans with the mig welder

He was once again very surprised that they didn't have "teeth" on them and how small that they actually were.

He about passed out when I set one of the Bridgers and fired it on my hand. Now he wants me to come up and catch a few of his yotes over the winter.

A little bit of education goes a long way with uninformed people that have common sense. Even when they have preconceived ideas from misinformation.
