We should probably make a poll to be sure. Would be easier to see the results and %.

The only trapped animal I would use the mag for is trapped hogs.

Even with the LR I avoid the hyper and high velocity rounds. You want them just dead not dead through and through.

I like remington ceebees or equivalent power with a hp or segmented bullet.

As much as I love a 22 mag, they don't get used for the trapline. Just to much for the intended purpose. I carry an old single six with the 22 l.r cylinder in it for trapping. Always have a 22 mag rifle, 223 bolt rifle or the 250 A.I in the truck as well.

For just trapping a pistol is best a rifle is just one more thing to carry if you don’t really need a rifle.

22mag, 22 or 12g…..a farmer brought a beaver he hammered with #6 2&3/4 to a friend to get tanned. It was hilarious, but she did an excellent job tanning and looks good on the fur side…lol

22 lr is my go to for dispatching and for trapping and my cats catches.

The rifle has no will of its own it may be used for evil but there are more good men than evil men and evil will be corrected by good men with rifles.

I have been using a Ruger LCP2 its a little .22 cal semi auto. I think with that short of barrel the powder has not fully burned so way less power. I hardly ever have a bullet go thru even on small animals. .22 long rifle is so much cheaper than shorts, and this handgun is about the size of my cell phone. I seem to carry it more.

Have shot thousands of 'coon night hunting with a game caller. .22 mag is an excellent choice. CCI MaxiMag hollow points. Head shots only. Repeat: head shots only.

That being said, definitely not a dispatch gun..

Years ago I would use 22 shorts for dispatch. If you can find them they work well. I used them in a old single shot rifle.

Now you can get lr down to 710fps so quiet and limited power but bigger and easier to Handel for hands with arthritis. standard velocity is 1050 fps also slower and not as loud. easier to find and typically cheaper than shorts.
