I've seen some baits that are rattlesnake based and it got me thinking. Does anyone buy rattler carcasses like they would beaver or bobcat for lure/bait making?

Technically snakes are federally protected so I doubt it. However they do have snake hunts in Texas and Oklahoma and sell cooked meat so I don't know the rules obviously.

I was not aware of the fed protection. Those crooks corner all the good markets

A guy at my old camp killed a 52" black timber rattler years ago. I skinned, filleted and fried it. It was pretty good eating.

I'm not aware of any commercial market.

There is a limited season on them in PA.

Eh...wot?

To sell rattlers at those roundups they have to be alive. Else they cant be processed to sell. Not much meat on them. Its good but it would take 3-4 if you were hungry.

$873.17 for a 10-15 pound pack? Now that's what I call a market!

Eh...wot?

When it comes to meat selling find the local minorities and chat with them. An no I'm not joking. Lotta minority groups will pay top dollar for stuff most people won't look at .
If remember ember right a lot of older Hispanics use rattle snake as a , Viagra type of deal .
Definitely wouldn't be surprised if there's some older Asians who'd want them for snake liquor and the like
Id advice maybe finding a go between first though

I guess I was misleading. I was thinking bait makers when I said meat market. Not trying to make the feds top ten list. I’ll look into skunk meat instead.

I need a go between for coon meat. Used to be an old guy would come here and buy it from me then resell it. He died. I have tried bringing up selling coon meat to some of the black drivers I work with and they seemed offended. Talking to another trapper at our state rondy about it he told me that the younger generation doesn't eat them on special occasions like the older folks did. I know the old man that bought them resold them in Topeka and KC.
