Don’t want to use cameras, that’s cool.

Don’t want to use a longbow and use a compound or crossbow? Good for you.

We have enough problems with antis no need to help them out.

Look what they are trying to do to us in Colorado. Maybe focus your energy on stopping that.

Great Idea

Does it really bother u that much. I know others may not care how i hunt but I don't lose a bot of sleep about it. I kind of enjoy the debates over it

Doesn’t bother me one bit how another person lives their lives. What bothers me is the constant bickering about methods. It’s one thing to discuss the pros and cons. But people like to denigrate others on how they hunt, and we shouldn’t be doing that.

Hunt, fish or trap how you want. Just my way of getting folks to fight against proposition 127 In Colorado.

The question was asked if you use cameras, I believe the "cheating" comment was tongue in cheek, people expressing their preferences isn't denigrating anyone just because it's their opinion, I didn't think I read anything that attacked anyone for those opinions, but I have thick skin.

But to reiterate, I don't use cameras or any other recent technology, but I could care less if anyone else does.... and I got the impression no one else cares either. Just because it's a rousing discussion doesn't mean we want to ban everything we don't personally use....

I get that, and my comment isn’t really based on this thread alone. But, in general. I talk to hunters and trappers as part of my side job. They, frequently like to put other outdoorsman down about how they hunt. Not saying y’all are, but it does happen. And it might have been a joke about using cameras, but I get the chance to talk to legislators and they would take one comment and run with it that it’s cheating and not fair chase to use a camera. Then nobody gets to use them. That happened here, we can’t place cameras on public property now.

I took it as more of a question about who hunts “ old school “ more than anything else…

You bet Nessy….. still take the lever gun out once in awhile…… got to be careful with it though. ….. Noah only brought two of everything so original parts might be hard to find if I need something….

No feeders, no bait but we put out a camera or 2 to see what is around, not in hunting spots.

My personal favorite example of trail cameras , it bow hunting , and leasing hundreds or more acres.
Could also be gun hunters, and locking up what locals used to hunt.
Then a new landowner farmer moves in close to the leased property .
Has a problem with deer or whatever , damaging their crops.
File for a crop damage permit , and shoot the deer/ or whatever is causing the damage.
Loved it when the big bucks were no longer around .
All the expense of baiting, cameras . blinds , all for nought.
Plus they brought in hunters to shoot the big game, at a few thousand $ a week.
Private property has limits , compared to open areas.

Sadly, alot of truth in that.

I enjoy checking my cameras as much or more than actually hunting.

Plus, pics of a good buck allows me to identify him quickly when he appears.

Down here all you can shoot for crops are does. Win for the lease hunters.

I have never seen more jealousy on a site in my life, lol.
Grown men upset because someone hunts different than they do.
Grown men upset because someone shoots something bigger than they do.
Grown men upset because someone catches more than they do.
Grown men upset because someone uses a different trap than they do.
Grown men upset because someone can afford something more than they can.
Grown men upset because uses a different sight than they do.
Grown men upset because upset because someone can shoot farther than they do.

They need their own forum just to go and whine about life and how bad they have it. Let it rest.

You have better traps than me…happy for you.
You shoot a bigger deer than me…happy for you.
You have a better gun than me…happy for you.
You hunt a fenced in area and shoot nothing but 200” bucks…again I’m happy for you.
You catch a bigger fish than me…happy for you.
You’re richer than me…happy for you.
You catch more critters than me…happy for you.

Y’all gentlemen have a good evening, hunting and trapping season.

Ah yes, Iowa shotgun season!
That's the way we do it too. Usually fill all our tags in a day and a half, maybe two. That's enough deer hunting for me.

Yes sir. Surprising how many I've killed while pushing. You'd think the standers would get all the shooting but that's not the case. I think the pushers shoot more big bucks that are trying to slip around behind them, than the standers see some years.

I could be your grandfather I guess because I hunted for many years without cameras. Then I started with the film cameras which were a real struggle compared to what we have nowadays. Am I a better hunter because I bowhunted for 25 years before cameras?

Can't really say. I am certainly more knowledgeable about deer behavior than I was without cameras, but there is also a TON of info out there online and in other publications such as books and magazines. I have been a part of that. I was the first one to publish a magazine article about how deer use CRP (1991 in North American Whitetail Magazine) and that was way before cameras.

Would I want to go back? No way. I love the cameras; it's like a sport in itself. I like seeing deer and bears and the cameras allow me to do that. I love learning new things about them and the cameras have taught me so much more than I could have ever learned without them. Just my opinion.
