Yes 220 is a otter or fisher trap. Also no 220 is certified under the aihts for marten.-would be illegal to set a 229 for marten. in Ontario maybe-each province is different-check your regs mb traps 16

The largest legal marten trap under the AIHTS is certain 160s

Not that I would set a 220 for marten but each province has different rules is all I am saying. Provincial jurisdictions do have their own laws but cannot legalize traps outside AIHTS certification. Always check the trap certification list before you set a trap for each species. Also check your provincial regs for other rules that apply to non aihts species (mink and fox) and methods (snaring or deadfalls).

Couldnt see him hanging until I got real close. He is basically the same colour as all the old mans beard in the bush.. A true boreal fisher.

That is interesting about the longtails turning late or not at all. I notice the gland smell is a lot different than the northern shortail. The longtail smells more like mink. I caught the first longtail ever here about 6 years ago,and so far have got less than 10.last year I got two. Out of all those only two were pure white I catch between 50 and 100 northern shortails in a season depending on how many marten boxes I have out.
Also interesting that the shortail and longtail live together.I would not want to see the longtails displace the shortails.I assume they have a somewhat different prey base with some overlap.

Large chunk of beaver meat in the box at least half fill the box. No lure-waste of time/money for marten.
