I too did that.

Yes, those saddles are now collectors items, if they're in decent shape. Some are still in business, like Miles City , Hamley, etc. My Hamley , 1923 form fitter , served me well riding absolutely everyone, regardless of size or weight. The only thing is that those old saddles are so heavy.

A cowboy paying $ 10-20 dollars for a saddle back then took up a lot of paychecks ...but they had a lifelong investment.

One or two mink in those days would cover the 20 buck cost.

Forget that fear of gravity-get a little savagery in your life.

My FIL had a saddle made in Kentucky in the '40s.
Was last used around 1990.

Wife took it to a local Amish about 20 years ago to have it repaired,/freshened up.
He wanted to buy it from her when she went to.pick it up, said whoever built it " knew their business".

Been out in our barn since...
Next to an OLD McClellan.

Back in the late 90s we lived in a Sears and roebuck kit home it was actually a deluxe model, one night we had a knock on the door and the lady outside rather embarrassed asked if her dad could come in and look at the house he had cancer and wasn’t expected to live much longer and wanted to see the home he had grown up in and his dad had built, he told us a lot of interesting things and I would have liked hearing more

Amazing
