How old are you Wolfdog? I'm pretty sure a 19 year old isn't separated from you by a generation.
I understand you are trying to help, but, leave the guys personal choices to him.

Certainly, left of center....Lord, I apologize for that statement.
Left of center? Ain't that part of Wolfies complaint?

Nothing wrong with tying to be a good friend Wolfie. Some people you just can't reach. this AND a lot of these guys work in what you would call extremely toxic work places , places where if you put any mental energy into what your co-workers do you would wear yourself out every day. they probably could put names of co-workers to about every type of issue you can name and at some point they probably stopped even remembering the names of the here today gone in a short time bad employee/co-worker. my son worked in the same job in a plant for about 20 months , probably trained 15 people to do his job in that time ,they seldom make it 3 months before their destructive behaviors got them fired or they quit some made it less than a day. he left on good terms to go back to school having decided what he wanted to do.
America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

I can't imagine the minds that would be blown if the they new about the 44 magnums, white crosses, rip fuels, and gas station ephedrine pills that most middle income factory workers in the 80s partook in along with unfiltered cigarettes' and copious amounts of alcohols. No helmets or seat belts. Today we are concerned with caffeine and screen time.
Good Times
70's too.

Before meth got so popular speed from Mexican pharmacy’s was everywhere. I never saw anybody get their mouth pried open and pills dumped in. Screwed up lots of people. Then the government got Mexico on board with shutting it off. Then crank (meth) got popular. Now its coming from Mexico too.
People prone to bad choices are going to harm themselves. Not you, LE or government passing more law can change that.

Skipping the wisdom, or morality: Personal rights take priority over government, and employer. As long as it is legal, and endangering no one, it is entirely up to the individual.
On private property, like your boat, rules can be implemented if necessary. Like no smoking at night while on "watch" duty. Energy drinks, and the like, not so much.

You talk like Wolfdog is trying to force the kid to not do the things he is doing. Where as the truth is he's just trying educate and persuade, as a friend, the kid so he'll make smarter choices on his own. Thus he's asking for help on how to approach this, since he obviously cares about the kid and doesn't like to see him harming himself with the crap he is doing.

Good advice. Maybe take it, and leave Wolfdog alone with his choice to try and help a friend.

So he shouldn't try to help his friend? Ok, then. If it was just that it would be one thing. But honestly from the origional post It sounds to me like there are more underlying issues he has with the kid than just that. That is just MY opinion.I may be wrong,,,I have been before.

I don't know what the motivation is. I do think it sounds more like control than concern.
